EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Moving a glass of water. Focus Secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: The main visual effect of this trick is the appearance of a disappeared glass of water in the pocket of the performer's jacket. To complete the trick, the artist should show not only the disappearance of a glass of water (this is one of the variants of this trick), but also its appearance. This variant of the focus will have the greatest success with the audience and, therefore, will bring creative satisfaction to the performer. So, the artist takes a glass, fills it with water and puts it on the illusion table. After that, he takes a handkerchief and shows it from all sides to the audience. There is no doubt - a scarf without secrets. Now the performer covers a glass of water with a handkerchief, lifts it, holding the edges of the glass (fingers are arranged in a circle) (Fig. 1).
Having thus carried a glass of water around the stage, the artist comes close to the auditorium and suddenly throws it high above his head (Fig. 2).
The glass mysteriously disappeared in front of the audience. The performer catches the tip of the handkerchief with which the glass was covered and puts it on the table. But what is the surprise of the audience when the artist suddenly extracts this very glass from the inner pocket of his jacket, filled to the brim with water. Focus secret: For the trick, you will need two completely identical glasses and a colorful scarf made of dense matter measuring 30 x 30 cm. One of the secrets of the trick lies in the scarf. In the middle of it, a ring of thin wire is sewn in with a diameter equal to the diameter of the edges of the glass. The second secret of the trick is in the illusion table, where a sideboard is made, in which a glass of water should be hidden. And finally, the third secret is the second glass, which is filled to the brim with water and placed in advance in the side pocket of the magician's jacket. To prevent water from spilling out of this glass, you need to take a children's inflatable ball and pull it over the edges of the glass. It is very convenient and absolutely reliable (Fig. 3).
When all the props are prepared, you can start demonstrating the trick. Having filled a glass with water, the performer places it next to the sideboard. Then he shows the audience a handkerchief and covers the glass with it. Next to the glass, you must first put a small piece of sponge, abundantly moistened with water. When the artist takes the edge of the glass, he grabs this piece of sponge with his little finger and ring finger. Taking a glass, the magician lowers it from under the handkerchief into the sideboard, leaving in his hand only a handkerchief with a ring, which gives the impression that there is a glass under the handkerchief (Fig. 4).
At that moment, when the artist approaches the audience, he must squeeze a piece of sponge between his fingers so that water flows out of it. Thanks to this, the audience will believe until the last minute that the performer is carrying a glass of water. The magician then tosses the handkerchief into the air, catches it, and places it on the table or in his pocket. Now the artist only needs to take a glass of water out of his pocket. To do this, he, putting his hand in his pocket, removes the rubber lid from the glass, leaves it in his pocket and takes out a glass of water from there. Author: Akopyan A.A.
