Focus Description:

On the stage stands an illusion table covered with a colorful tablecloth. In the center of the table is a shiny metal stand with a hook at the top. Next to the counter is an ordinary alarm clock. The magician approaches the table, picks up an alarm clock and winds it up. The alarm clock rings loudly. After making sure that the call works well, the performer hangs the alarm clock on the hook (Fig. 1).

The alarm clock continues to ring. The magician takes a handkerchief and covers it with an alarm clock hanging on a hook - again the bell does not stop:

The artist removes the alarm clock from the hook and puts it on the table - the alarm clock is not appeased. Then the performer covers it with a handkerchief, takes it from the table and goes to the auditorium - the call does not stop. Finally, the artist throws the alarm clock up - the call stopped, and the alarm clock disappeared without a trace. Only one handkerchief remained in the magician's hand.

Focus secret:

For this trick, you first need a regular alarm clock. In addition to it, you will need a metal stand 25-30 cm long with a hook at the top, which should be screwed into the middle of the illusion table, and a dense colored scarf measuring 40 x 40 cm. A wire ring corresponding to the diameter of the alarm clock should be sewn into the middle of the scarf. In the table closer to the edge, next to the metal rack, you need to make a sideboard (Fig. 3).

The props of this trick also include an electric bell, which is attached to the back of the table so that the audience cannot see it. The location of the call should be known only to the assistant performer, who at the right time makes this call ring.

During the demonstration of the trick, the artist removes the alarm clock from the hook, puts it on the table not far from the sideboard and covers it with a handkerchief. Then he pretends to take the alarm clock with his left hand, but in reality he holds a ring sewn into a handkerchief, and at this time with his right hand quickly and imperceptibly, disguised as the corner of the handkerchief, pushes the alarm clock into the sideboard.

When the artist goes to the audience, the alarm clock is no longer in his hands, and the ring, which is sewn into the scarf, creates the impression that the performer is carrying an alarm clock under the scarf.

During the demonstration of the trick, the assistant performer should stand near the table to press the call button. The bell should ring until the performer tosses the handkerchief up.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Drone-record holder 06.01.2018

The technologies used in the creation of unmanned aerial vehicles, multicopters, devices with multiple rotors, are becoming more perfect literally every day. These craft are getting bigger batteries and smarter power distribution systems, so they can stay in the air for longer.

Drone company Quaternium has demonstrated a new hybrid model HYBRiX.20. And this device managed to stay in the air for four hours and forty minutes, thereby setting a world record for the duration of a multicopter flight.

Most multicopter devices that you can buy in the nearest store or on the Internet are able to stay in the air for no more than 25-30 minutes at a time. Professional and custom-made aircraft have large energy reserves, for example, last year such a multicopter crossed the English Channel after being in the air for 72 minutes. However, there are other companies in the world, for example, Skyfront, whose devices can also be in the air for about four hours.

The official world record for the duration of a flight, registered in the Guinness Book of World Records, until recently was two hours, six minutes and seven seconds. Naturally, this record has been beaten more than once for a long time, but members of the Guinness Committee were not present at these events. However, Quaternium decided to do the right thing by capturing the flight of their drone on video, which is enough for a world record to be recognized.

Note that the HYBRiX.20 drone is a hybrid model with a gasoline internal combustion engine that starts when the energy in the batteries of the device comes to an end. Such a system is ideal for areas that require a long stay of the device in the air, for mapping, aerial photography, observation and control of crops.

“The low cost of the HYBRiX.20 drone makes it affordable even for ordinary farmers,” Quaternium writes, “And every additional hour in the air means less need for refueling / recharging, less manual labor and, as a result, higher profitability of use apparatus".
