Focus Description:

Give the viewer a piece of paper that you have previously folded into nine squares. Invite him to write the desired name in the center; then enter any names in the remaining squares. Then invite him to tear the paper along the folds. You will get nine separate pieces that you need to put in a hat.

Now everyone will agree that you have a one in nine chance of finding a piece of paper with a name in mind. But when you put your hand into the hat and take out the right piece from there, the impression is amazing!

Focus secret:

It's easy to do. Your sheet of paper - the original - has straight edges. When the sheet is torn along the folds, the edges are uneven. The only square, all four sides of which will be uneven, is the one in the middle with the intended name.

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Implanted brain stimulator 30.04.2024

In recent years, scientific research in the field of neurotechnology has made enormous progress, opening new horizons for the treatment of various psychiatric and neurological disorders. One of the significant achievements was the creation of the smallest implanted brain stimulator, presented by a laboratory at Rice University. Called Digitally Programmable Over-brain Therapeutic (DOT), this innovative device promises to revolutionize treatments by providing more autonomy and accessibility to patients. The implant, developed in collaboration with Motif Neurotech and clinicians, introduces an innovative approach to brain stimulation. It is powered through an external transmitter using magnetoelectric power transfer, eliminating the need for wires and large batteries typical of existing technologies. This makes the procedure less invasive and provides more opportunities to improve patients' quality of life. In addition to its use in treatment, resist ... >>

The perception of time depends on what one is looking at 29.04.2024

Research in the field of the psychology of time continues to surprise us with its results. Recent discoveries by scientists from George Mason University (USA) turned out to be quite remarkable: they discovered that what we look at can greatly influence our sense of time. During the experiment, 52 participants took a series of tests, estimating the duration of viewing various images. The results were surprising: the size and detail of the images had a significant impact on the perception of time. Larger, less cluttered scenes created the illusion of time slowing down, while smaller, busier images gave the feeling of time speeding up. Researchers suggest that visual clutter or detail overload can make it difficult to perceive the world around us, which in turn can lead to faster perception of time. Thus, it was shown that our perception of time is closely related to what we look at. Larger and smaller ... >>

A new way to chemically convert plastic into fuel 22.07.2019

One of the most acute and serious problems in the context of modern ecology on Earth is the problem of excessive amounts of plastic accumulating as waste and poisoning rivers, lakes, seas and large areas of land. According to modern data, already now the volume of this waste plastic reaches 5 billion tons, which is quite a critical indicator. And despite the fact that most experts suggest recycling this plastic, thus saving the earth's ecology from direct danger, there is still a more interesting way of recycling - it was proposed by a team of specialists from Purdue University, and it consists in transformation.

Namely, in the transformation of most types of plastic into the most useful fuel that can be used in a variety of spectrums and tasks. At the same time, it is worth noting that specialists invented and tested a new technological process for such a conversion of plastic into fuel, reminiscent of gasoline and diesel in its characteristics and properties. This technological process concerns the use of polypropylene as the final conversion product.

Polypropylene is a fairly common material, often found in children's toys, medical equipment and environmentally friendly devices, and as such is cheap and easy to change. As a transformational agent, scientists have proposed using so-called supercritical water - which has both the properties of a liquid and the properties of gases - by heating it between 716 and 932 degrees Fahrenheit at an average pressure 2,300 times that of deep sea pressure.

With such a chemical transformation of polypropylene, it becomes possible to convert plastic into fuel - especially since, according to experts, almost any plastic widely used in various fields is suitable for such a procedure. It remains to wait for news regarding the completion of the project.
