Focus Description:

The performer unfolds a beautiful drapery approximately 6 x 8 feet (1,8 x 2,4 m). The assistant, standing to the left of the illusionist, takes hold of the upper left corner of the fabric and pulls it tight, unfolding the drapery between the illusionist and himself. At the command of the illusionist, the assistant wraps himself in drapery, and in such a way that his body is tightly covered with fabric. The performer walks around the resulting "mummy" and takes the free end of the fabric and unwinds the fabric. The drapery falls to the floor, and to everyone's surprise, not a man, but a beautiful girl appears in front of the hall!

Focus secret:

A. You only need 6 x 8 feet (1,8 x 2,4 m) drapery fabric for staging. If you will demonstrate it at home, you can use a blanket or sheet. However, it is desirable to use an opaque, decorative fabric on the stage.

Focus Mystery of the Magical Mummy

This version of the mummy is set out in relation to the performance that you will arrange at home. Choose a room for this, the door to which is located approximately in the middle of the free wall. The girl should hide in the adjacent room to the right of this door. The assistant, who, by the way, should be about the same height as the girl, will stand on your left with a cloth thrown over his arm. The spectators are positioned in front of you so that you can cover the doorway with an unfolded cloth when the assistant lifts it and tightens it, as indicated in step 1 below.

The top hat is you; letter "G" - girl; letter "A" - assistant.

1. Take the fabric and start turning it to the left. The assistant takes the upper left corner and stretches the fabric between you, as shown in the picture. You should position yourself so that the doorway is exactly behind the center of the stretched fabric. In addition, make sure that the bottom edge of the fabric is on the floor.

2. As soon as you and your assistant have stretched the fabric, the girl leaves her hiding place and stands behind the resulting screen.

3. Stages 3 and 4 are the main secret movements in this performance. At your command, the assistant steps over the left edge of the fabric, hiding behind it. As you move it, you must keep the fabric taut.

4. As soon as the assistant has disappeared from the field of view of the public behind the cloth, the girl takes a new position between the assistant and the cloth. The assistant makes room for her by extending her left hand, which is holding the cloth, and taking a step back. The girl at this time grabs the fabric with her right hand. So that she can do this secretly from the audience, the assistant must wrap the top corner of the fabric just before the moment when the girl takes it.

5. Note. All these movements (stages 3 and 4) should be carried out in one or two seconds and naturally, smoothly move into the movements of the next stage.

6. As soon as the girl has grasped the fabric, the assistant quickly and quietly leaves the scene through the doorway.

7. The moment the assistant is out the door, the girl starts wrapping herself in the cloth until she is close to you.

8. Note. The audience should get the impression that the assistant took a step behind the fabric and immediately began to wrap himself in it.

9. Now go around the mummy and grab the free end of the fabric with your hand. At this point, the audience doesn't know what the outcome of your actions will be, so play out the situation as fully as you can.

Focus Mystery of the Magical Mummy

10. Begin to unfold the drapery slowly at first, then faster, until the turn of the last movement comes. With a wave of welcome, you finally remove the drapery, which falls to the floor, and a beautiful girl appears before the audience.

Focus Mystery of the Magical Mummy

You will make the performance even more spectacular if the assistant manages to return. This means that, after leaving the room, the assistant must run around the house and enter the hall from the other side. If the layout of the house allows this, then the assistant will simply take his place in the hall. The audience will not notice the appearance of another spectator, as it will be absorbed in what is happening on the stage. Then the assistant starts to applaud the most energetically, and the audience will be even more amazed to see and know who is leading the applause!

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Super solar flare could destroy all electronics on Earth 08.01.2013

Adrian Melott (Adrian Melott) from the University of Kansas at Lawrence (USA) and his colleague Brian Thomas (Brian Thomas) from Washburn University in Topeka (USA) studied the "superflare" on the Sun in the 774th century AD, whose traces were recently found in annual rings of Japanese cedars. A solar superflare in 1859 turned out to be several times more powerful than the previous record holder, the "Carrington event" of XNUMX, capable of destroying all electronic devices and electrical networks on Earth, astronomers say in an article posted in the electronic library of Cornell University.

Flashes periodically occur on the Sun - explosive episodes of energy release in the form of visible light, heat and X-rays. It is believed that the most powerful outbreak occurred in 1859 during the so-called "Carrington event". During this powerful outbreak, approximately 10 yottojoules (1025) of energy were released, which is 20 times the energy released during the meteorite impact that destroyed dinosaurs and marine reptiles.

The discoverers of the ancient outbreak, Japanese physicists led by Fusa Miyake from the University of Nagoya (Japan), considered it a so-called "superflare", the power of which exceeded all known bursts of solar activity by several orders of magnitude. Melott and Thomas tried to calculate the exact amount of energy that could have been released during the superflare in 774. To do this, scientists calculated the proportion of radioactive carbon-14 in the annual rings of cedars and determined the amount of energy that was brought to Earth by a flash. Astronomers then tried to calculate the energy of the ejection on the Sun itself by changing the area of the flare and the proportion of its matter that reached our planet.

It turned out that the flash power was two orders of magnitude lower than the maximum values predicted by their colleagues. However, this does not deprive the 774 event of the status of a "superflare". According to researchers' calculations, about 774 yottojoules (200 * 2) of energy were released on the Sun during the burst of 1026, which is 20 times more than the power of the "Carrington event".

A similar cataclysm today would lead not only to the destruction of electronics on board satellites and the Earth's surface, but also to the appearance of other anomalies. Thus, the share of ozone at the boundaries of the stratosphere and troposphere would decrease by 20% in the first months after the outbreak and would remain low for several years.

According to Melott and Thomas, this would lead to a deterioration in the health of plants and animals around the world, and an increase in the incidence of skin cancer. However, a mass extinction of flora and fauna is unlikely, which adds another argument in favor of the realism of such outbreaks. According to the authors of the article, such "superflares" can occur once every 1250 years, which underlines the importance of observing the "health" of the Sun, given their catastrophic consequences for the infrastructure of modern civilization.
