Take a bottle cork (made of cork wood) and stick a needle into the cork with its eye in the very center. On the sides of the cork, stick, as symmetrically as possible, two forks with some inclination to get a triangular figure with a cork at its top. Where is the center of gravity for this figure? To find it, do the following.

Tie a piece of string to each handle of the fork and secure it to the very ends of the handles with electrical tape or adhesive tape. Then take a piece of thick paper or thin cardboard, put our triangular figure on it. Use a needle and thread to attach paper to each fork. The third attachment point will be a button stuck through the paper into the cork. Cut the paper around the edges of the forks. Now hang our triangle on the drawing board, standing upright, or on the wall by one of the threads attached to the fork. Using a ruler, draw a continuation of the thread on which our figure hangs with a pencil on paper. Then turn the triangle over and hang it on another thread and also draw a line - the continuation of the thread on which it now hangs. Finally, hang the triangle on the third thread tied to the button stuck in the cork, and also draw a line. If you have done all this carefully, then all three lines will intersect at one point. This point will be the center of gravity of the fork figure. And it is located slightly below the end of the needle. This position of the center of gravity promises us a very stable balance.

Fork balance

Take a bottle, put a five-kopeck coin on its neck and put the end of the needle on it, having previously removed the now unnecessary paper. Our forks feel so stable that they can even be rotated around the neck of a bottle. Now attach a piece of plasticine or bread crumb to one of the forks. The whole system will tilt a little, but will not fall. Pharmacy and laboratory scales work on this principle.

Fork balance

The same experience can be made even more interesting, "revive" it. And here's how: you need to stick not one, but two needles into the cork - like two "legs". Place the whole system on top of a slightly slanted ruler (the slope is up to you), then rock the system slightly and it... will go down the ruler!

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

AA/AAA batteries from hybrid car batteries 07.03.2016

Last February, Energizer announced the launch of the world's first batteries that partially use materials from old, recycled power sources. Following EcoAdvanced, the manufacturer also announced the world's first AA and AAA batteries, in which 4% is made up of materials from used batteries. Named Energizer Recharge, the new products have a high capacity and can be recharged hundreds of times, and the use of recycled materials makes them environmentally friendly.

The company's researchers, in collaboration with partners (names not disclosed), have found a way to recycle end-of-life high-performance car batteries. Using a patented process, the active component is recovered, allowing it to be reused in Energizer Recharge batteries.

Of the characteristics of new products, a capacity of 2300 mAh, the number of recharge cycles up to 1500, charge retention up to 12 months are noted when the batteries are not used. Note that the Recharge family also includes models of sizes C, D and crowns for 9 V.
