ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RADIO ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Acoustic design of the low-frequency dynamic driver. Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering / Speakers Improving the sound quality of modern acoustic systems is achieved mainly through the use of new materials and technologies. Designers of foreign firms "Jamo" and "Paradigm" are developing speakers, consisting separately of a low-frequency link (subwoofer) and two high-frequency loudspeakers. Subwoofers are a case with an acoustic panel located in it and dividing it into 2 volumes with a dynamic bass head installed on it. This head with the front surface of the diffuser works on one closed volume of the case, and on the back - on the second, with a phase inverter tuned to a certain frequency. Designs with two phase inverters tuned to different frequencies are called dual tuning systems. Some subwoofers consist of two "Push-Pull" woofers placed opposite each other and in acoustic coupling. Some designs use woofers with two voice coils. This allows you to connect speakers to two channels of a stereo bass amplifier. The frequency range reproduced by these ACs is 25...150 Hz. I have made several subwoofers of this design. Domestic low-frequency heads 75GDN-3 were used. The result exceeded expectations! Subwoofers do deliver, as the advert says, "...an unsurpassed, deep and penetrating bass reproduction." I want to share my experience in manufacturing the most successful subwoofer design with one woofer for repeating. The body (Fig.1, 2) is made of chipboard 20 mm thick. The body walls are connected to each other with 20x20 mm rails using glue and screws. The acoustic panel with a hole for the woofer is mounted inside the speaker cabinet. The rear wall of the case is removable, a low-pass filter and terminals are installed on it (low-pass filter is typical for multi-band speakers). Phase inverter pipes - with an inner diameter of 75 mm, a length of 50 and 250 mm, the thickness of their walls must be at least 3 mm. The diameter of the holes for phase inverters is not indicated in the drawing and depends on the diameter of the pipes used. The inner surface of the speaker cabinet is pasted over with batting or foam rubber. The woofer is attached to the panel with screws. The gaps between the panel, the woofer and the walls of the case are sealed with plasticine and foam rubber. The back wall is attached through a foam pad. The speaker cabinet is pasted over with veneer or synthetic film. The openings of the phase inverters are decorated with decorative overlays in the form of rings. PS Unfortunately, the figure does not show the vertical size of the subwoofer, but according to my approximate calculations, it should be about 600 mm. (N.B.) Literature
