When I bought a used car and began to repair it, my first assistant in the garage was ... a lift that I built under the ceiling. Without him, I would hardly have succeeded, for example, in such a difficult operation alone as replacing an engine.

Figure 1 shows the location of the lift in the garage - just above the hood of the car. With a boom length of just over a meter, my crane has a working area of ​​about 5 m2. This is quite enough to remove heavy components and assemblies from it and return to its place during maintenance or repair of the car.

I made a crane according to the scheme of an inverted jib (Fig. 2): an L-shaped boom-console with a cargo winch is planted on a vertical shaft.

The shaft was machined from a steel billet Ø 80 mm, welded into the base - a steel sheet measuring 400x400x25 mm and attached to the ceiling with four M16 through bolts. The floor slabs in my garage are slanted towards the entrance, so to keep the base horizontal, I put a few washers under the long bolts.

The arrow was welded from a meter-long brace, two corners 50x50 mm and a glass. In the latter, I pressed two bronze bushings, which serve as plain bearings. On the shaft, the entire structure is held by a splinted shaped nut M42x2,0.

As a cargo winch, it would be possible to use a manual hoist or a factory-made chain hoist. However, I made myself a winch myself (Fig. 3) - from a mechanism designed to adjust the air brakes of trucks (with a ratchet).

The central hole of the worm wheel was bored out for a cable drum - a piece of pipe Ø 42 and a length of 150 mm; welded this pipe. Then I put flanges - rings Ø 80 and 5 mm thick. Attached the drive handle to the input shaft of the ratchet.

I drilled holes in both halves of the drum, where I brought out the ends of a steel cable Ø 4 mm, hung a single-strand pulley with a cargo hook on it. If you turn the handle, the drum winds the cable and lifts the load on the hook to the desired height.

The winch thus obtained I supplied with a four-wheeled trolley. It consists of two curved cheeks with rollers, on which bearings No. 204 are put on with wheels pressed on them. The latter are held on the rollers by spring retaining rings.

The trolley moves along the horizontal shelves of the corners, and it is protected from jumping off by a limiter bolt with thrust bushings installed at the end of the boom.

Texas Instruments releases library for MSP430 and CC1100/CC2500 22.03.2007

One of the areas of application of the low-power MSP430 microcontroller is short-range wireless applications operating in the 433, 868, 2400 MHz ISM bands.

The radio part in such applications is often based on the well-known Chipcon CC1100 and CC2500 chips for frequencies up to 1 and 2,4 GHz, respectively. The combination of MSP430 and CC1100/CC2500 allows you to create high-performance wireless connections with speeds up to 500 kbps.

To facilitate interoperability between these products, Texas Instruments is releasing an open library of functions that avoids developing low-level interfaces when adding Chipcon wireless chips to a project. Interaction with Chipcon microcircuits is traditionally carried out through the SPI interface.

Texas Instruments provides this library for all SPI implementations on MSP430 peripherals: USART0; USART1; USCIA0; USCIA1; USCIB0; USCIB1; USI; Bit-banging (emulation) with GPIO. The library is provided with a demo application - LED remote control.
