Children's bicycle "Misha" - the design is reliable and even comfortable. My son does not part with him all summer. But in winter, "Misha" is out of work, gathering dust on the mezzanine. I thought: why not turn it into some kind of winter mode of transport? The ski snowmobile option seemed the most suitable. To do this, it turned out to be enough to replace the front fork with an attachment with two children's plastic skis, and wrap the rear wheel with an old electrical wire - a snow hook.

Skis in the attachment initially had one degree of freedom - they swung only around an axis perpendicular to the direction of movement. Therefore, driving across the slope was difficult. I had to install ball joints, giving two degrees of freedom, and an independent spring suspension. When it became possible to manage the nylon snowmobile, things immediately went smoothly. In addition, the stiffness of the springs is adjusted depending on the weight of the rider and the condition of the snow cover.

The prefix consists of an axial tube d 27 mm, into which a bicycle handlebar is inserted from above. The lower end of the pipe is plugged with a steel plug with two through holes with M10 thread - for the screws for fastening the brackets, in which the swing axes of the shock absorbers and levers with skis are located.

Each spring is wrapped around a rod, one end of which is held by a set screw in the small shock absorber head, and the other end slides inside the large shock head. On the stem thread there is a nut and a knurled locknut for adjusting the spring rate.

Levers - from a pipe d 19 mm. At the ends of each, a tip and a ball bearing are pressed (and fixed with pins d 8 mm), and thrust plates for a small head are riveted in the middle. Ball bearings are equipped with stoppers d 8 mm, which prevent the skis from turning around a vertical axis. The stoppers enter the grooves of the cylindrical glasses fixed on the skis. These slots are oriented to provide a 3-5° ski toe angle that improves the snowmobile's handling. Ball operas in glasses are held by lids and are covered with tarpaulin covers during operation.

Mounting the ball joint on the ski is as follows. The glass is screwed to the rectangular board with four countersunk head M4 screws (bottom). The board itself is fastened with two screws and a plate fitted into the holes for the straps in the skis (front). And at the back, three nuts are placed under the board, into which screws are screwed from above through the board and from below through the ski, preheated with a soldering iron.

Independent spring suspension allows the ski to follow the terrain and enter turns like a bicycle - leaning inward. In addition, it absorbs well, gives a smooth ride.

However, the metamorphoses of "Misha" did not end there. My daughter grew up, and she also wanted to ride a bike. Where do beginners start? Usually from falls. To avoid them, as well as quickly teach my daughter to ride, I built a tandem. The son took a seat in the front seat and happily drove his sister around the yard. She could only turn her pedals. Having learned to keep balance, she began to ride on her own. And the tandem now serves as entertainment for the neighborhood kids.

Here's how it works. Two serial "Misha" are docked with the help of a node, which is made from a bicycle frame that has served its time. The post with the bottom bracket and axle is the lower part of the seat tube, and the rods are pieces of thin tubes of the frame. The stand is shortened to 105 mm, turned to d 25 mm to a length of 162 mm. The axis is removed from the carriage, and its ends are given a cylindrical shape for the M8 thread for a length of 14 mm. Then it is inserted back, and the ears of horizontal and vertical rods are screwed to it.

The trunk has been smashed off the front bike. Instead, vertical thrust of the docking station is installed. The horizontal bars are attached to the seat tube clamp.

The front wheel with the fork was removed from the rear bike, its steering sleeve was put on the rack of the docking station, and the steering wheel was installed. In this case, the axes of all three carriages are strictly parallel, so that the tandem has exactly one equilibrium position. And one more thing: hubs with brakes from the Shkolnik bicycle are mounted in the driving wheels of the tandem - for greater reliability.
