Many have probably heard about an interesting winter sport - skijoring, in which skiers compete, towed by a motorcycle. In northern countries, a similar sport is cultivated - towing a skier by a horse. The vehicle with which we want to acquaint you will allow you to fully experience the delights of high-speed skiing without resorting to the help of a horse and without burdening a friend - a motorcyclist (who wants to ride an open two-wheeled car in winter!).

We are talking about a simple caterpillar motorized towing vehicle called "Seal" based on a V-50 moped engine that will rush you across a snowy plain at a speed of 30 km / h.

As can be seen from the figures, it is arranged simply. On a flat frame, welded from square steel pipes, a two-stroke engine is mounted (these were installed on mopeds "Riga", "Karpaty" and others) and five bearing assemblies, in which five tubular shafts with rollers attached to them can rotate. A pair of rear (large) rollers is a drive one; a bush-roller chain is used to drive them, connecting a small sprocket on the engine and a large sprocket mounted on the drive shaft of the motorized towing vehicle. To the upper shaft, on which a pair of tension rollers is mounted, a drawbar with motorcycle-type control handles is pivotally attached. In addition to them, a mo-ped fuel tank is located on the drawbar.

Start the work on the manufacture of a motorized towing vehicle with the selection of bearings. It is from their geometric parameters that the dimensions of bearing assemblies, shafts and rollers will depend. Of the most common bearings, 205 bearings are best, although others are also fully acceptable.

Turn the housings of bearing units from pieces of steel pipe 58x4 mm. In essence, it is enough to trim these segments on a lathe, make grooves for the bearing cages and cut the annular grooves for the lock split washers.

Roller shafts - from a 20x3 mm pipe, install them in bearing housings using adapter bushings fixed on the shafts with electric rivets (this is the name of the connecting elements obtained by electric welding, when a hole is drilled in one of the mating parts, and then, when mounting the parts, it is welded; metal filling the hole and is called an electric rivet).

To assemble the frame of a motorized towing vehicle, we recommend using the simplest slipway-plaz - a flat chipboard, on which a side projection of the frame is drawn.

First of all, fasten the bearing housings in the centers of the rollers with long studs. At the same time, try to ensure that their axes are parallel. Otherwise, it will be difficult to achieve normal operation of the caterpillar mover.

Next, select suitable pipes, preferably of square section, since it is easier to bend them - you just need to cut a wedge with a hacksaw for metal, bend it in accordance with the image on the plaza and weld the resulting joint.

In the indicated way, prepare two frame pipes - upper and lower, and then use soft steel wire to dock with bearing assemblies. To do this, drill holes in the pipes in the area of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbthe front and rear bearing assemblies, through which pass the wire, while looping around the bearing assemblies. Then, using a wrench, twist the wire tightly so that a kind of "telegraph" bandage is formed (this is the name for the connection of a wooden telegraph pole with the base-pa-son). Attach the frame pipes to the rest of the bearing assemblies (except the top one) with wire twists

After carefully checking the parallelism of the bearing housings, weld them to the frame, then remove the wire and check the frame again, if necessary, straighten it. At the end, reinforce the joints of the frame with the lower bearing assemblies with gussets made of steel sheet 2 - 2,5 mm thick.

Cut out the engine mounting brackets first from thick cardboard and work out their shape and size. When the contours are finally determined, according to the templates obtained, cut out the actual brackets from a 3 mm thick steel sheet, drill holes in them with a diameter of 8 mm. Fasten the brackets with bolts on the engine, after which the engine is pulled to the frame with a wire in accordance with the image on the drawing or on the plaza. Next, grab the brackets by welding, check the accuracy of their location and finally weld them to the frame.

The engine does not have a special muffler - its function is performed by the lower part of the frame. To do this, connect the engine exhaust window with a pipe to the cavity of the square tube of the frame. To release exhaust gases in the latter, drill holes with a diameter of 5 mm from the bottom (at least fifty holes will be required, otherwise the engine will not develop nameplate power).

Now about the manufacture of rollers. All of them - leading, supporting and tension - are the same in design. Each consists of a central sleeve welded from two steel discs and a piece of pipe, two duralumin discs and twelve (for large rollers) or eight (for small) couplers. The latter are steel studs with pieces of a rubber hose mounted on each; the studs are attached to the discs with nuts. This design of the rink is quite simple and is able to set in motion the caterpillar of a motorized towing vehicle.

As can be seen from the figures, the upper pair of rollers can move along the frame, thereby allowing you to adjust the track tension.

The drive rollers are fixed on the shaft with conical pins, the holes for which are drilled in the central bushings put on the drive shaft before the final assembly of the rollers.

The "Seal" mover consists of two rubber-fabric strips, cut out from an old conveyor belt and combined into a single caterpillar with wooden slats - lugs. The strips are joined into a ring with the help of a knot resembling a piano loop. When assembling the caterpillar, the distance between the grouser rails is strictly maintained - it should be 57,5 mm. Each grouser rail is attached to the rubber-fabric belt with a pair of bolts and nuts, while a rail is located on the outside of the belt, and a comb cut from a 2,5 mm thick steel strip is located on the inside. The ridges allow the drive rollers to "rewind" the track, thereby setting it in motion.

The motorized towing vehicle is controlled by a drawbar on which motorcycle-type handles are mounted; on the right there is a "gas" rotary knob, on the left - a clutch mechanism drive and a gearbox switch from a "heavy" moped.

For the motorized towing engine, you will have to slightly alter the standard starting device. Remove the kickstarter pedal and press the pin into the shaft. Start the engine with a car-like crank. To do this, put a ratchet on the shaft of the starting device and turn the handle sharply a quarter of a turn.

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Foldable keyboard 05.04.2000

You have to enter text into a pocket computer by drawing letters on its screen with a special pen, and the device understands far from every handwriting: you only need to write in a special computer font.

An American firm began producing a foldable keyboard that doubles the size of a PDA but makes it almost as comfortable to use as a larger one.
