Blooms in late June - July and until September. The fruits ripen in September.

Range and habitats. The range of the species covers Southern and South-Eastern Europe, North Africa, the Near and Middle East. Naturalized everywhere.

Chemical composition. The whole plant contains contains furocoumarins (up to 2,2%) (a mixture of three substances - isopimpinellin, xanthotoxin and bergapten. The toxicity of ammifurin contained in the plant is relatively low.

Ammi big

Application in medicine. Ammi preparations stimulate the formation of melanin pigment in the skin when exposed to ultraviolet light. When administered together with ultraviolet irradiation, they help restore skin pigmentation in vitiligo. Furocoumarins, in addition, have a capillary-strengthening, some sedative, choleretic, diuretic effect, slightly tone up the uterus and intestines.

Galenic preparations from the plant irritate the kidneys, and a mixture of furocoumarins (ammifurin) is relatively low-toxic. Ammifurin has no significant effect on the cardiovascular system.

Even in ancient Egypt, patients with white spots ingested crushed ammi seeds and then exposed the skin to solar radiation. The medicinal properties of ammi big were known in the XIII century, Arab doctors used it to treat leukoderma. The side effects observed at the same time, in particular, irritation of the kidneys that developed when taking plant extracts, limited its use.

Ammifurin is used for vitiligo, alopecia areata and total baldness, lichen planus.

cultivated and wild plants. Legends, myths, symbolism, description, cultivation, methods of application

Ammi large (lat. Ammi majus) is an annual plant belonging to the umbrella family (Apiaceae). It is also known under the names Bulgarian dill, Belarusian dill, wild rose, wild rose, etc. Ammi is native to the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe. The plant is used as an ornamental, as well as a spice and for medicinal purposes.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing ammi large:

Cultivation:

  • Ammi greater prefers sunny places and light, sandy soil with good drainage capacity. Can grow on soils with neutral acidity.
  • It is best to plant the plant in spring or autumn at a depth of about 1-2 cm.
  • The optimal row spacing between plants is 30-40 cm.
  • Large ammi should be watered regularly, especially in hot weather. However, avoid flooding the soil so as not to damage the roots of the plant.
  • You can feed the plant with mineral and organic fertilizers, but this is not mandatory.

Plant care:

  • At first, the plant may show weak growth, but with age it will become more resistant to drought and disease.
  • Remove weeds and dried flowers so that the plant does not waste energy on their growth.
  • If the cultivation is for spices, it is recommended to cut off the tops before flowering.
  • If there is a danger of frost, the plants should be covered.
  • The flowering tops of the plant can be harvested during flowering.
  • It is best to pick the flowers one at a time to keep them intact.
  • Dry the flowers in the shade or in a cool and dry place.

Storage:

  • Dried ammi flowers can be stored in glass jars or paper bags in a cool and dry place.
  • Storing wet flowers can cause them to deteriorate and lose quality.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

E-paper with optimal color reproduction 17.07.2021

In order for reflective screens to compete with energy-intensive backlit screens, they must reproduce images and colors with the same high quality. Thanks to research from the Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden), this breakthrough may soon become a reality.

"Our study shows how this technology can be optimized to make it commercially viable," says Marika Gugole of the Chalmers Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

Based on a previously studied porous and nanostructured material containing tungsten trioxide, as well as gold and platinum, they tested a new, inverted tactic. The component that makes the material electrically conductive was placed under the pixel nanostructure that reproduces colors, and not above it, as before. This new design means you're looking directly at the pixelated surface, so colors are perceived much more clearly.

"Our main goal in developing these reflective screens, or 'electronic paper' as they are sometimes called, was to find green, energy-saving solutions. And in this case, the energy consumption is almost zero, because we simply use ambient light," explains the study leader, Professor Andreas Dahlin.

In his view, a major industrial player with the necessary technical expertise can start developing products based on this new technology within a few months. In addition to smartphones and tablets, it can also be useful for outdoor advertising, being a more cost-effective option compared to both printed posters and digital screens.
