Safe Operation

1. General requirements for labor protection

1.1. Persons not younger than 18 years of age who have undergone special training and have received a certificate for the right to drive a tractor in the prescribed manner are allowed to drive and service wheeled tractors. The tractor driver must be trained in labor protection and obtain the appropriate certificate.

1.2. The assignment of workers to a particular machine must be issued by order (instruction) for the workshop or organization.

1.3. The driver must know and comply with the internal labor regulations of the organization.

1.4. The driver must use personal protective equipment (overalls, footwear, gloves, etc.) issued in accordance with industry standards.

1.5. When driving wheeled tractors on public roads and logging roads, you must be guided by the "Rules of the Road".

2. General requirements for labor protection

Occupational safety requirements before starting work

2.1. Before starting work, the tractor driver must check the technical correctness of:

  • running gear of the tractor and trailer technological equipment;
  • steering and braking device;
  • lighting devices and sound signal.

2.2. Fully fill the tractor with fuel and lubricants, special and coolant liquids.

2.3. Before starting the engine, check the control levers of the tractor and technological equipment and make sure that they are in the neutral position and the hydraulic system is turned off.

2.4. After starting the engine, check the operation of the machine and process equipment at idle and make sure that they are in good condition. It is not allowed to work on a damaged tractor.

2.5. Before starting the movement, the driver must make sure that there are no people near the machine and on the path of movement, give a warning signal and only then start moving.

3. Labor protection requirements during work

3.1. The employee must perform only the work that is entrusted to him by his immediate supervisor.

3.2. When reversing the tractor to the trailed equipment, it is necessary to move in the first reverse gear at a low engine speed, keeping the right foot on the fuel supply pedal, and the left foot on the drain pedal, ready to stop the tractor at any moment.

3.3. If the tractor driver does not see the approaching hitching devices, then another worker who is outside the path of the tractor must supervise his actions.

3.4. Before each entrance to the tractor cabin, the driver must carefully clean the shoes from dirt in order to avoid falling off the footboard and slipping off the control pedals.

3.5. When the tractor is moving, it is forbidden to get off and enter the cab, stand and sit on the footboards, ladders, fenders, attached technological equipment.

3.6. When the engine is running, do not carry out any repairs under the tractor.

3.7. Process equipment should be cleaned from earth, snow, dirt, bark, wood chips, etc. after the tractor has come to a complete stop.

3.8. When working with attachments, the following requirements must be met:

  • when turning the tractor, make sure that the technological equipment fits into the dimensions of the road;
  • do not make sharp turns at higher transport speeds (to avoid tipping over);
  • do not carry out adjustment, cleaning and other work under the raised technological equipment (spontaneous transition of the hydraulic system to the lowering mode is not ruled out);
  • for long journeys, take into account that the technical specifications for the manufacture of the tractor allow the shrinkage of the hydraulic cylinder rods up to 30 mm in 30 minutes. Therefore, you should periodically monitor and adjust the height of their rise.

3.9. It is forbidden to operate trailed technological equipment with faulty brakes.

3.10. During operation, the driver must carry out the "stop" command, regardless of who gave it.

3.11. It is forbidden to leave the tractor unattended when the engine is running.

4. Labor protection requirements in emergency situations

4.1. If the gauges indicate insufficient oil pressure in the engine or high coolant temperature, you must immediately stop the machine and turn off the engine. After the engine has cooled down, measure the oil level, inspect the oil pipeline system and eliminate the identified defects.

Open the radiator cap to check the coolant level with extreme caution, avoiding burns. First, loosen it by releasing steam, and then remove the cap on the neck. In this case, you need to work only in mittens.

If it is necessary to eliminate a malfunction that has arisen during operation and maintenance, turn off the machine engine.

4.2. If the tractor is forced to stop on the road (due to a malfunction), put an emergency stop sign behind the tractor and take measures to eliminate the malfunction. In necessary cases, you should resort to the help of other drivers, and if the malfunction could not be eliminated, follow the safety measures to the garage. In cases where the brakes do not work, steering parts are damaged, fuel is leaking from the power supply system, the cardan shaft is damaged, the towing device is faulty, as well as in the event that the tractor has run off the track or into a ditch and it is impossible to drive out on its own, the driver must inform the mechanic or work manager.

4.3. The tractor driver is obliged to comply with the decision made by the mechanic (work manager) for its further towing or towing in a laden state for a short distance before the tractor enters the logging road.

It is forbidden to use a loaded timber road train as a tug, as well as to tow a faulty loaded tractor.

4.4. It is not allowed to hitch and stay between coupled vehicles until they come to a complete stop.

4.5. In the event of a traffic accident, the tractor driver involved in it must:

  • stop immediately and do not move the tractor, as well as other items related to the incident;
  • if the movement of vehicles is not possible, clear the roadway, having previously fixed the position of the tractor and the objects and traces related to the traffic accident;
  • if necessary, provide first aid to the injured.

4.6. Each worker must be able to provide first aid. Assistance must be provided immediately at the scene of the incident. The first step is to eliminate the source of injury (turn off the engine, stop the mechanism, remove the victim from under the whip, etc.).

The provision of assistance should begin with the most significant that threatens the health or life of a person: in case of severe bleeding, apply a tourniquet, and then bandage the wound; if a closed fracture is suspected, apply a splint; with open fractures, you should first bandage the wound, and then apply a splint; for burns, apply a dry bandage; in case of frostbite, gently rub the affected area using soft or fluffy tissues.

If spinal injuries are suspected, the victim can only be transported in the supine position on a rigid base.

After providing first aid, the victim should be sent to the nearest medical facility.

5. Labor protection requirements at the end of work

5.1. At the end of the work, the operator must:

  • park the tractor, lower the process equipment to the ground;
  • turn off the pumps, stop the engine;
  • clean the tractor and technological equipment from dirt and debris;
  • inspect the tractor; upon detection of malfunctions that cannot be eliminated on their own, report to the mechanic or other responsible person.

5.2. It is necessary to notify your immediate supervisor about the shortcomings in the field of labor protection.

Impact of electric cars on the environment 10.11.2023

The environmental impact of electric vehicles may be underestimated, especially when considering the distances electric vehicle owners drive each year. This raises important questions regarding the development of regulations and standards for electric vehicles, taking into account their actual impact on the ecosystem.

Widespread adoption of electric vehicles is seen as an important step towards decarbonizing the energy system. However, new data shows that electric vehicle owners drive significantly less miles on their vehicles each year compared to gasoline car owners.

The study, conducted by researchers at George Washington University and the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory, is based on odometer data from 12,9 million used cars and 11,9 million used SUVs from 2016 to 2022. The results indicate that battery-electric vehicles drive an average of almost 7300 km less per year compared to gasoline-powered vehicles.

Specific figures show that electric cars travel 11530 km per year, while gasoline cars cover 18735 km per year. Likewise, electric SUVs achieve a range of 17 km, while their petrol counterparts reach 038 km per year.

The study indicates that the true ecosystem impact of electric vehicle use may be underestimated, especially as mileage increases. Estimates of carbon savings may be significantly underestimated when considering the estimated comparative mileage of electric vehicles and gasoline vehicles.

The researchers also note that the efficiency of using electric vehicles may depend on various factors, such as the availability of charging infrastructure and the presence of multiple vehicles in a household, which can affect the range of electric vehicles.

These results raise questions about the need to develop more precise emissions regulations and set standards for zero-emission vehicles. The best environmental benefits are expected from drivers who travel long distances in their electric vehicles. Thus, additional research and analysis may be required to more accurately assess the ecosystem impacts of electric vehicles.
