Aonla (amla, Indian gooseberry)

Aonla, or amla, or Indian gooseberry (Aonla phyllanthus emblica, or Emblica officinalis), Euphorbia family (Euphorbiaceae). The genus Phyllant includes several wild and cultivated species native to the tropics of Southeast Asia.

The main cultivated species are the aonla and the star or oriental gooseberry (Phyllant acidus).

The aonly tree is evergreen, up to 18 m high. Fruits with small stalks, spherical, with a greenish smooth, transparent skin; divided into 6 segments by deep longitudinal grooves, so they are star-shaped in cross section; contain 6 small seeds; bitter-sour taste.

The fruits ripen during the winter months, during the dry season. In areas with a weak dry season or when the plantation is provided with frequent watering, Aonla blooms and bears fruit remontantly, throughout the year.

One tree in the period of full fruiting gives up to 190-200 kg of fruit. The chemical composition of aonly (in %) of water is 81,0, proteins - 0,5, fats - 0,1, carbohydrates - 14,1, ash - 0,7; salts of calcium, phosphorus, iron; vitamins (in mg per 100 g) B, - 30, nicotinic acid - 0,2, C - from 600 to 1800; calorie content - 54 kcal 100 g.

Aonla (amla, Indian gooseberry)

The best varieties of aonly include Bana-resi - yellowish fruits the size of a small apple; Green - the fruits are almost green, large; Red - the fruits are red, smaller; White-striped - fruits with white longitudinal stripes of medium size.

Aonla fruits are not damaged by birds and animals. They are well stored and transported. They are used fresh, as well as for making jam, jelly, marmalade, sauces, marinades, confectionery, national hot spices (chutney) and for drying. Dried aonla flour, tablets and confectionery as the main source of vitamin C were included in the diet of the Indian army during the Second World War. Bitterness is eliminated by soaking the fruits in brine or adding citrus fruits or unripe mangoes to them.

For the treatment of certain diseases, fermented juice and dried slices of aonli are used along with grape juice, honey and herbs. For medicinal purposes, Aonla leaves are used along with fenugreek seeds and sour milk, as well as Aonla seeds and roots. In India, a method has been developed for obtaining ascorbic acid concentrate from aonly.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Intel Haswell processors with DirectX 11.1 support 14.02.2012

In 2013, Intel processors are expected to be released on the Haswell architecture, which will replace Ivy Bridge. The source published details about the graphics component of Haswell.

Haswell's integrated GPU (iGPU) will support the DirectX 11.1 APIs, including DirectCompute, and OpenCL 1.2, allowing for performance gains in some applications optimized for General Purpose Graphics Processing Units (GPGPUs). In addition, the iGPU will implement a new standard for stereoscopic imaging - Auto-Stereoscopic 3D (AS3D), designed to make technologies such as Blu-ray 3D and stereoscopic photography widely available. Currently, only AMD Radeon and NVIDIA GeForce GPUs provide an acceptable level of performance for them.

An important innovation will be the transfer of some functions from the chipset to the processor. Intel processors now outsource display-related I/O to the System Hub (PCH) by communicating with it via the Flexible Display Interface (FDI). On Haswell boards, digital video outputs such as DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort will be routed directly to the processor socket. Analog video outputs will remain under the control of the PCH, as before connected to the processor via the FDI interface.
