White lamb, Lamium album. Basic information about the plant, use in cooking

White lamb

At the nettle, the leaves are very similar to the leaves of the stinging nettle, but do not have stinging hairs, which is why it is called deaf.

Grows in littered places, shrubs, landfills, along roads and fences, in forest edges and clearings.

It is found almost everywhere near stinging nettle, but prefers wetter places.

The scientific name comes from the Greek word "lamia" - mouth, pharynx, since the opened flowers resemble to some extent the mouth.

The leaves contain 130 mg of vitamin C and 14,5 mg of carotene per 100 g of fresh weight, they are distinguished by a delicate pleasant peculiar aroma and taste. Most often they are served at the table instead of spinach mixed with sorrel and stinging nettle leaves.

In Georgia, the young leaves of nettles are eaten boiled with butter and onions, the young shoots are salted and pickled, and the roots are cooked like asparagus.

For the preparation of fresh salads, young leaves are used mixed with leaves of sorrel, stinging nettle, and common barberry.

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

The submarine will go to Titan 24.02.2015

NASA will send a submarine to Titan. The mission of the submarine will be to explore the hydrocarbon sea of Saturn's largest moon.

Titan is the only satellite with a dense atmosphere and the second celestial body in the solar system after Earth to have seas and lakes of liquid hydrocarbons. The largest of the seas of Titan is the Kraken Sea, located in the northern hemisphere of the satellite. Its area is about 400 thousand square kilometers, and the depth reaches 300 meters.

A promising submarine will move with the help of an electric motor and reach speeds of up to 1 m/s. During the 90-day mission, the submarine will cover a distance of about two thousand kilometers, filming the surroundings of Titan on the onboard camera.

The radioisotope Stirling generator, which will be installed on the ship, will provide the submarine with the necessary energy and save the electronics from freezing. Unfortunately, prototypes of the high-tech generator are expected to be ready no earlier than 2040, so the mission is unlikely to start earlier.
