10K TV

16.06.2015

The Chinese company BOE introduced a TV with a 10K format panel. Its resolution is 22 times that of Full HD and 5,3 times that of Ultra HD. While the release of such devices is impractical. The product was presented to demonstrate the capabilities of the supplier.

Chinese panel supplier BOE Technology Group unveiled the world's first 2015-inch 82K TV at Display Week 10 in California, according to Heise.

TV panel format - 21:9. Its resolution is 10240 x 4320 pixels, that is 44 million pixels. This is 22 times more than Full HD (1920 x 1080) and 5,3 times more than Ultra HD or 4K (3840 x 2160).

The pixel density in the BOE TV matrix is 135 ppi, so it is difficult for the viewer to see the pixels, even if he is near the screen. By comparison, a 50-inch Full HD TV has a pixel density of 44 ppi.

BOE hasn't said if they plan to mass-produce an 82-inch 10K sensor. Its release serves only the purpose of demonstrating the technological capabilities of the Chinese manufacturer and the Chinese industry as a whole.

At present, the Ultra HD format is gradually gaining popularity, the resolution of which is 5,3 times less than in the TV presented by BOE. Even if the company decides to release its own panel, content of this format does not yet exist on the market. In addition, it will be necessary to develop new media for storing it, since the capacity of a modern Bluray disc will not be enough.

BOE Technology Group produces panels for TVs, monitors and mobile devices. It was founded in 1993 in Beijing and is one of the largest players in the LCD panel market in China.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Application Processors with High-Speed Wireless LAN Module and NAND Flash 10.03.2014

Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) announced the release of a new line of application processors supporting the IEEE802.11ac frequency band (a standard for high-speed wireless LAN) and equipped with NAND flash memory. The TZ5000 series is the latest addition to the Toshiba ApP Lite family and is ideal for applications ranging from Internet video tuners (OTT1) and IP media players to portable devices, digital public address systems and thin clients.

As the volume of video and audio transmission over the Internet grows, there is a growing need for set-top boxes and other similar equipment to receive content and distribute it to computers and smartphones via a wireless LAN. The TZ5000 Series Application Processors combine the wireless LAN connectivity required for high quality video distribution with built-in NAND flash for storing user programs and storing large amounts of data in the form of a cache. This reduces the number of external integrated circuits and reduces the installation area, which contributes to a reduction in the size of the equipment.

This series also uses an original low-power technology to reduce power consumption and heat generation when processing multimedia applications such as HTML5, which usually take a heavy load on the CPU.

The TZ5000MBG and TZ5001MBG are based on a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore processor with a NEON media processing engine running at up to 1,2GHz. Built-in IEEE802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2x2 MIMO communication module (Ensigma C4500) provides high-speed connectivity to wireless host devices.

Built-in 32Gb MLC NAND flash and a dedicated memory controller provide fast software loading (such as operating system) and fast data access. Moreover, thanks to the software zone built into the module, the processors are protected from data corruption and hacker attacks. The TZ5001MBG processor supports additional security in the form of Secure Boot System Control.

Each processor includes a PowerVR SGX540 GPU, a PowerVR VXD395 VPU, and a graphics engine capable of 1080 pixels at 60 frames per second. This module contains a multi-format decoder and inter-process communication scheme (IPC), and also supports scalar, rotator, and linker functions. DDR3/3L/LP-DDR3, USB OTG, SDIO, HDMI, MIPI, CSI, and DSI interfaces are used for high-speed I/O.

Delivery of trial samples of new processors will begin in May, and the beginning of serial production is planned for September, 2014.
