Patrinia average (stone valerian), Patrinia intermedia roem et Schult. Botanical description, habitat and habitats, chemical composition, use in medicine and industry

Patrinia medium (stone valerian)

Perennial herbaceous plant with a taproot many-headed rhizome, Valerian family (Valerianaceae).

The stems are thick, with a shortened lower part, 25-70 cm high, bear several basal leaves and 2-5 pairs of stem leaves. The leaves are opposite, double-pinnate, gray-green, 4-15 cm long, 2-5 cm wide.

The flowers are bright yellow with a bell-shaped corolla and an oval bract, collected in thyroid paniculate inflorescences. The fruit is an achene, surrounded by a membranous overgrown seed.

Blooms in May - July.

Range and habitats. It grows in the foothills and mountains of the Tien Shan, in Altai.

Chemical composition. In the roots and rhizomes, alkaloids were found - 0,14% (in terms of the dry mass of raw materials), saponins - 13,8%; from the sum of saponins, an individual saponin, called patrinoside D, was isolated; m.p. 192-210 ° C, molecular weight, determined by genin, is 1491.

Patrinoside D is a colorless crystalline substance with a bitter taste, highly soluble in water, methyl and 80% ethyl alcohols, insoluble in petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, dichloroethane, ether, acetone. Patrinoside is an oleanolic acid hexa or heptazid containing 4 glucose and 2 (or 3) xylose residues. The content of patrinoside is about 50% of the total amount of saponins.

Hemolytic index 400. In the underground organs, 1,5% of tannins, 0,18% of essential oil, and patrizid were also found.

The essential oil of patrinia medium is a dark yellow, rapidly crystallizing mass with a sharp unpleasant odor and a burning taste, easily soluble in ether, benzene, chloroform and alkali solutions, in 96% alcohol when heated.

When dissolving the essential oil in a 10% sodium carbonate solution and subsequent oxidation with hydrochloric acid, substance A was isolated - white lamellar crystals with a sharp peculiar odor, easily soluble in ethyl ether, benzene.

Application in medicine. Patrinia has sedative properties. This action is due to the saponins contained in it. Under the influence of the triterpene glycoside patrinoside, conditioned reflex activity decreases in animals, the latent period of the conditioned reflex increases, and the magnitude of the reflex decreases. The tincture of the roots and rhizomes of patrinia is similar in pharmacological action to the tincture of valerian officinalis, but more active than the latter. Valerian stone tincture is used in the same cases as valerian officinalis tincture.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Sense ID technology 08.03.2015

Qualcomm has unveiled Snapdragon Sense ID fingerprint reader technology. While most modern fingerprint scanners use high-resolution capacitive sensors, Qualcomm Snapdragon Sense ID has used ultrasonic waves to create a map of the surface of the finger. The company says it is the first ultrasonic 3D fingerprint identification technology on the market.

This approach not only achieves higher resolution to recognize details such as pores and scars for improved safety, but also reduces the effects of finger moisture and other contaminants. In addition, the technology can work not only through glass and sapphire coating, but also through a plastic, metal or aluminum layer.

Sense ID uses Qualcomm SecureMSM technology and supports the FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance Universal Authentication Framework (UAF) standard, allowing you to get rid of inconvenient passwords in many cases or to increase the protection for payments and other transactions. Qualcomm Sense ID will appear primarily in new devices based on Snapdragon 810 and 425 single-chip systems, but will be compatible with all Snapdragon 400, 600 and 800 series chips.
