Spatodea

Spatodea is a genus of dicotyledonous flowering plants included in the Bignoniaceae family. Includes one species - Spatodea bell-shaped. Included in the list of the most dangerous invasive species.

Spathodea is an evergreen tree, usually not exceeding 20 (rarely up to 25) m in height. The leaves are shiny, opposite or in whorls of 3, palmately dissected into 9-17 leaflets, each of which is up to 15 cm long, oblong-elliptical in shape, sessile or on a short petiole.

Flowers few, large, bilaterally symmetrical (zygomorphic) in racemose inflorescences at the ends of branches. Calyx 6-8 cm, spatulate. Corolla bright scarlet or red-orange, tubular, up to 12 cm long, with 5 curly petals. The stamens are approximately equal in length to the corolla tube.

The fruit is a dry oblong capsule up to 20 cm long and up to 6 cm wide with numerous winged seeds dispersed by the wind.

The original range of Spatodea is tropical Africa. It is widely grown in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and America, where it often runs wild and becomes a dangerous invasive species.

cultivated and wild plants. Legends, myths, symbolism, description, cultivation, methods of application

Spathodea (Spathodea) is a large evergreen tree with beautiful flowers, originating from the tropical regions of Africa and Madagascar.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing spathodea:

Cultivation:

  • Choose a landing site that is in a sunny location and has protection from the winds.
  • Prepare the soil by adding organic compost and sand if the soil is too clay or heavy.
  • Plant the seeds or seedlings of the spathodea about 2-3 cm deep into the soil.
  • Water the plants regularly to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
  • Fertilize your plants sparingly, using fertilizer for flowering plants.

Workpiece:

  • Harvest Spatodea flowers during their peak bloom.
  • Cut flowers early in their flowering stage when they are at their best.
  • Separate the flowers from the stem and other debris that may attach to them.
  • Leave spatodea flowers in a ventilated area to dry.

Storage:

  • Store dried Spatodea flowers in a cool and dry place at 15 to 20°C.
  • Store spathodea flowers in storage bags or containers with tightly closed lids to avoid damage.
  • Periodically check flowers for mold or rot and remove damaged plant parts.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Boston Dynamics Spot Robot 20.06.2020

The four-legged robot Boston Dynamics Spot went on sale starting at $74500.

Boston Dynamics has previously repeatedly demonstrated the usefulness of its four-legged Spot robot. The robot dog has been used to triage patients suspected of having COVID-19, herd sheep and farm.

In all of these cases, the robot was provided on a short-term lease under the Boston Dynamics Early Adopter Program. But now the situation is changing, and companies in the US have the opportunity to own the Spot robot. The Robot Dog is intended for commercial and industrial use, and orders are subject to Boston Dynamics terms and conditions that require the "useful use" of the robots.

The robots will be available through online sales, and interested parties can contact Boston Dynamics for pricing. Note that the version of Spot Explorer, created for developers who want to work with Spot, is priced at $74500. Additional batteries and modules such as LIDAR can cost between $4620 and $18450, respectively.

"At Boston Dynamics, we've spent decades building and refining robots with advanced mobility, agility and intelligence because we believe that nimble robots can solve a wide range of real-world problems," said Mark Reiber, chairman and founder of Boston Dynamics. "The combination of Spot's sophisticated software and high-performance mechanical design allows the robot to perform tasks that are difficult or dangerous for humans. Now you can use Spot to improve human safety in environments and tasks where traditional automation has failed to achieve success."
