Field thistle (pink thistle), Cirsium arvense L. Description, habitat, nutritional value, use in cooking

Sow thistle field (thistle pink)

Thistle field pink, or field thistle, is a perennial dioecious root shoot plant with a high (up to 120 cm) branched stem.

Leaves oblong-lanceolate, notched, prickly.

Flower baskets are lilac-pink. The flowers are tubular, collected in a paniculate inflorescence. Blooms from July to September.

It grows along roads, on crops, along forest slopes and ravines, along river banks in many parts of the country.

A good honey plant, gives up to 140 kg of honey per hectare. Evil weed. With great difficulty it is eradicated from fields and gardens.

The chemical composition is not well understood. The plant is used in medicine.

Salads and soups are prepared from young leaves and stems. The bitter taste of field pink thistle gives the dishes a peculiar sharpness. However, the presence of thorns on the leaves interferes with their processing.

For the cultivation of field thistle, it is possible to allocate the most unsuitable for agriculture lands - ravines, mountain slopes, forest clearings and wastelands. It will grow everywhere, and give a large amount of greenery.

However, the lack of knowledge about the field sow thistle requires an integrated approach to its study, in which various specialists could take part, and above all toxicologists, hygienists, nutritionists, and agronomists.

The technology of cooking dishes from thistle field is little developed, and the nutritional value of this plant is also insufficiently studied.

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Broadband Internet is an inalienable human right 23.11.2009

From now on, Finland is the first state in the history of mankind, where the right of any citizen to broadband access to the Internet is enshrined at the legislative level.

Starting from July 2010, every inhabitant of the country (and there are only 5,5 million of them) has the right to access the Internet at a speed of 1 Mb/s. In just 5 years - by 2015 - they intend to raise this figure to 100 Mb / s.

Naturally, the law implies some variations, for example, a lower connection speed is allowed if it is made via mobile.
