The banal expression is widely known: "The world around us is full of surprises." A lot depends on us so that these "surprises" are not life-threatening.

It is quite obvious that there are much more "surprises" in the city than in the countryside, and dangers of various kinds, too.

But there is one common danger for the townspeople and the villagers - this is the danger of fire.

Causes of house fires:

1) careless handling of fire and flammable substances;

2) violation of the rules for the operation of electrical appliances and electrical equipment;

3) violation and non-compliance with the rules for the operation of heating stoves (in rural areas);

4) malfunction of electrical appliances and electrical equipment;

5) violation of the rules for handling gas appliances and equipment.

Fire safety measures

1. When handling electrical appliances:

1) do not leave working electrical appliances unattended;

2) not to use faulty or self-made electrical appliances;

3) do not fall asleep when the TV, tape recorder, electric heater, etc. are turned on;

4) do not include more than three electrical appliances in one electrical outlet;

5) do not insert nails, wire, etc. into blown electrical fuses;

6) do not use homemade electric extension cords;

7) do not wrap electric lamps with combustible materials (cloth, paper, etc.);

8) do not move or reinstall the switched on electrical appliances (if they are not intended for this);

9) do not hang clothes on electrical switches, electrical sockets, open sections of electrical wires;

10) do not use electrical extension cords and electrical wiring with damaged insulation.

2. When handling gas appliances:

1) do not place combustible objects and things in the immediate vicinity of the gas column or gas stove;

2) do not place gas cartridges, containers with paint, gasoline, kerosene near the gas stove or column;

3) if you smell gas, call the gas service by phone 04, open windows and vents to ventilate the room.

3. When handling heating stoves:

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Volcanoes and plague 23.04.2001

Climatologist Richard Stothers from the Goddard Institute for Space Research (USA), having studied historical documents, ice samples drilled from great depths of the Greenland glaciers, and rings on cuts of old trees, claims to have found a connection between large volcanic eruptions and plague epidemics.

Over the past 2000 years, there have been seven powerful eruptions, each of which has thrown at least one hundred million tons of dust and gases into the atmosphere. And in five cases out of seven, an epidemic of bubonic plague swept through the Old World shortly after the eruption. Volcanic dust brought into the upper atmosphere weakens the solar radiation reaching the Earth's surface.

As a result, cold air currents are shifting to the south, in Europe and the Middle East the climate becomes colder and more humid, which contributes to the spread of plague bacilli.

Plague-carrying rats try to stay closer to human dwellings and food supplies because of the cold snap. Then the epidemic begins.
