Arctic spoon

Cabbage family - Brassicaceae.

Biennial plant.

Basal leaves petiolate, spatulate and oval; stem leaves sessile, usually semi-stem-embracing, with heart-shaped base. Petals 3,4-4 mm long. The pods are elliptical, 5-7 mm long.

Blooms in summer.

It occurs on the coast of the Arctic Ocean, on sandy places and slopes in the Arctic and Kamchatka.

The aerial part contains before flowering 0,3-1,17% essential oil (by dry weight). The oil has a sharp (mustard) odor and contains 87-98% butyl mustard oil, a small amount of limonene, raphanol. Fresh greens are used as a spicy-flavoring seasoning for dishes.

In the Far North and the Far East, there is an oblong-leaved spoonwort (Cochlearia oblongifolia DC). Greens are used for salad and seasoning.

In the mountains of Altai, there is an Altai Siberian (Altai Siberian - Sibirica altaiensis (Laxm.) CK Schneid), which is a shrub. The stem is straight, smooth, 60-150 cm tall, with thick branches covered with dark brown bark and entire thick gray-green lanceolate leaves. Inflorescences in the form of panicles, developing at the ends of long lateral shoots of the current year from 5-10 simple brushes.

The flowers are white, the axes of the inflorescences and peduncles are bare; at the base with linear or lanceolate bracts with smooth hypanthium broadly bell-shaped outside. Leaflets glabrous, much larger than erect sepals.

Blooms in June. The fruits ripen in August.

The local population uses the infusion from the leaves as a substitute for tea.

  • For stomach ulcers: arctic spoon can help with stomach ulcers. To prepare the tincture, you need to pour 1 tablespoon of crushed leaves of the plant with 1 glass of boiling water, leave for 30 minutes and strain. Tincture should be taken 1 tablespoon 20-30 minutes before meals.
  • For migraine: Arctic spoon can help manage migraines. To do this, pour 1 teaspoon of dried leaves of the plant with 1 cup of boiling water, leave for 10-15 minutes and strain. Tincture should be taken 1 tablespoon 3-4 times a day.

Cosmetology:

  • For skin inflammation: Arctic spoon tincture can help with skin inflammation. To prepare the tincture, you need to pour 1 tablespoon of crushed leaves of the plant with 1 cup of boiling water, leave for 30 minutes and strain. Then the tincture should be applied to the skin with a cotton pad and left for 10-15 minutes. This will help reduce inflammation and soothe the skin.
  • From wrinkles: a mask using an arctic spoon will help improve skin condition and reduce wrinkles. To prepare the mask, you need to mix 1 tablespoon of crushed leaves of the Arctic spoon with 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 egg white.
