Dog rose (dog rose, canina rose), Rosa canina. Botanical description of the plant, area, methods of application, cultivation

The Latin name of the genus Rosa comes from the Old Persian wrodon, which in the Greek dialect was transformed into rhodon, and then in Latin - into rosa. The Russian generic name is obviously related to the thorns on the branches.

The name rose dog appeared in the context of comparing the value of this shrub with garden roses. According to the second version (Howard, 1987), rose hips were allegedly used in the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries to treat dog bites.

Deciduous shrub from 1,5 to 2,5 m in height.

Shoots are thick, arcuately curved, hanging down, rarely almost straight. Young shoots are greenish, often reddish or purple on the sunny side, glabrous. Old shoots are reddish, completely covered with thorns. Thorns sparse, sickle-shaped, with a very short base, laterally compressed, almost straight on the main stems, plentiful on flowering shoots, always hook-shaped, mostly arranged in pairs. Buds ovoid, small, obtuse, reddish, glabrous or nearly glabrous. The leaf scar is very narrow, with 3 leaf scars, hugging the bud.

The middle leaves of flower-bearing shoots are 7-9 cm long, glabrous, covered only along the main vein with short hairs, pinnate, with 7, less often 5-9 simple-serrate along the edge (often the teeth end in a gland), ovate-elliptical, at the top with shortly pointed leaves , 2-2,5 cm long and 1-1,5 cm wide. At the base of the leaf there is a narrow, glandular-ciliated stipules along the edge, with sharp ears.

Flowers - odorless, solitary or collected 3-5 in apical corymbose inflorescence, from white to bright pink, reach a diameter of 5-8 cm. lengths, broadly lanceolate, with abundant feathery appendages, fold back after flowering and fall off long before fruit ripening.

Petals shorter than sepals; disk wide, up to 4-5 mm in diameter, flat or cone-shaped, with a pharynx 1-1,6 mm in diameter; columns long, covered with white hairs; the head of the stigmas is spherical, conical, rarely almost spherical. Pedicels 12-18 mm long, often equal to the size of a mature fruit, less often shorter or longer than it, usually devoid of hairs and glands.

Blooms in May - July.

The fruits are smooth and glossy, orange-red in color, when ripe 15-26 mm long, broadly oval, less often almost spherical, devoid of glands, contain seeds inside - many hairy nuts. The fruits ripen in August.

Dog rose (dog rose, canina rose)

Rose dog is common in Western Europe, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia and North Africa, in the European part of Russia, in the Caucasus.

It grows singly or in small groups in sparse forests, in thickets of shrubs, on forest edges, in glades, clearings, treeless shrub and grassy slopes, on the banks of streams and rivers, along roads, in wastelands, like a weed. In the mountains it is found in the lower and middle altitudinal zones.

The fruit pulp contains sugars, pectin, nitrogenous, tannins and dyes. The fruits contain a small amount of vitamin C (0,24-0,85% of the dry weight of the pulp).

As a vitamin plant, dog rose hips are not of great importance (unlike the related May rose hips and wrinkled rose hips).

A very widespread ornamental and fruit shrub.

Dog rose hips are easily propagated by seeds and cuttings.

Frost-resistant. The most common rootstock for garden roses. Roses grafted onto it acquire its unpretentiousness, winter hardiness and significant disease resistance.

Dog rose (dog rose, canina rose), Rosa canina. Tips for growing, harvesting and storing

cultivated and wild plants. Legends, myths, symbolism, description, cultivation, methods of application

Dog rose, or dog rose (Rosa canina), is a wild rose bush that grows in forests, fields, and along roads in temperate climates.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing dog rose hips:

Cultivation:

  • Soil and Light: Dogrose prefers full sun and grows in a variety of soil types, including sandy, clay, and fertile soils. Well-drained soil is key to successful cultivation.
  • Planting and Depth: Dogrose hips are best planted in spring or fall. The planting depth should be the same as the potted plant you bought it in. The distance between plants depends on their adult size, but as a rule, it should be at least 1-2 meters.
  • Plant care: Dog rose does not require much care, but needs regular watering, especially during periods of drought. In addition, plants need fertilizing with fertilizers in spring and summer. Pruning a bush not only helps to keep its shape, but also helps to increase the yield.

Workpiece:

  • Dog rosehip is used to make jam, syrup, tea and other dishes.
  • Rose hips should be harvested when they are ripe and soft to the touch.
  • Before using rose hips, the seeds and inner hard shell must be removed.
  • To prepare jam or syrup, rose hips need to be washed, cut and poured with water for several hours. Then it must be thrown into a colander to remove the seeds and shell.

Storage:

  • Fresh rose hips can be stored in the refrigerator for several days.
  • If the wild rose has been harvested in excess, it can be frozen for long-term storage. To do this, the wild rose must be cleaned of seeds and cut, then packed in an airtight bag or container and frozen.
  • Rose hips can also be air dried until completely dry, then stored in a dry and cool place in a tightly closed package.
  • Rosehip is a rich source of vitamin C and other beneficial substances. It is also known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Multimedia complex Ford Sync 3 20.12.2014

Automaker Ford Motor has announced the third generation of the Sync infotainment system. In it, the American company changed the software platform, fixed bugs, increased the speed of work and made the interface more convenient and understandable for the driver.

Indeed, there have been many changes, but we will start with the name of the product. If earlier Ford officially called its on-board multimedia system Sync with MyFord Touch, then the updated version received the short designation Sync 3.

According to AutoTrader.com analyst Michelle Krebs, Ford made the right move by ditching the MyFord Touch brand, which consumers have associated with failure and trouble. The automaker said that the opinions and wishes of about 22 customers were taken into account when developing the new system.

Previous generations of Sync with MyFord Touch were based on Microsoft software, for which Ford received a lot of criticism. Sync 3 is based on the BlackBerry QNX operating system, modified by Panasonic. With the new software, the interface of the infotainment system has become clearer and faster, and the voice recognition technology has become more perfect and natural.

Now, to set the route in the navigator, you do not need to voice the exact address, but just say, for example, "Detroit airport" or "nearest hospital". Cars with Sync 3 will be equipped with a separate button on the steering wheel, designed to call the voice assistant.

The 8-inch touchscreen remains the same, but gesture control and display responsiveness to touch have improved. The number of available applications has grown to 40, including many multimedia services and programs that make life easier for drivers. Sync 3 received an updated graphical shell, including a convenient horizontal arrangement of icons for basic tasks (music, navigation, telephone, air conditioning, etc.).

Ford's new on-board kit will automatically update software, including via your home Wi-Fi network, when the vehicle is in range of a wireless signal.

Owners of vehicles with previous versions of Sync will not be able to migrate to the third generation of the system through a simple software upgrade - a complete replacement of the device on the center console will be required. Currently, Sync with MyFord Touch is used in more than 10 million vehicles worldwide. Sync 3 is scheduled to hit the commercial market in 2015.
