Character stings of bees, wasps and bumblebees largely similar. The poisons of these insects can cause allergic reactions in humans. In addition, they have a toxic effect on the nervous system.

Especially dangerous are bites in the region of the windpipe, which can happen when an insect is accidentally inhaled or swallowed. So try to take precautions. In summer, when many different insects fly, you should not drink directly from bottles, it is better to pour the drink into a cup and carefully examine the contents. When there are wasps, bees and bumblebees, you should not eat watermelons and other sweet berries.

Symptoms of bee and wasp stings

Pain, skin redness, swelling with a diameter of 2,5-5 cm, which disappear within 24-48 hours after the sting - this is a mild reaction. Rash (sometimes with blisters and itching), cough, malaise, dizziness, nausea, joint pain, fever (sometimes to high numbers), respiratory failure - a severe allergic reaction that occurs immediately after a sting.

When to see a doctor

If the child is having difficulty breathing, call emergency services.

If your child has a rash, see a doctor.

First aid

1. In case of general malaise, give the child an antiallergic drug: suprastin, pipolfen, claritin or another (according to the instructions attached to the drug).

2. Watch your breathing and pulse. Take resuscitation measures if necessary.

3. If your child is stung by a common honey bee, remove the stinger. If the sting cannot be grasped with your fingers, try gently removing it with tweezers. If the sting is deep and cannot be pulled out, seek the advice of a doctor.

4. Wash the affected area with warm soapy water or treat with any antiseptic (vodka, cologne, etc.). The bite can be lubricated with any anti-itch and anti-allergic ointment (for example, such as fenestilgel), which will relieve pain and reduce swelling.

5. Apply a cold compress or a clean, damp bandage to the affected area to reduce pain and swelling.

6. Give your child more warm drinks.

7. Watch for possible signs of infection (increasing redness, swelling, pain) for 24-48 hours. If there are signs of infection, call a doctor or take the child to an emergency room.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Volvo cars will warn each other about ice 29.03.2014

The Swedish automaker came up with a technology to share information about bad roads between cars. The system notifies not only drivers, but also road services about problem areas.

Volvo Car Group is testing a new vehicle communication system that allows them to send each other information about the condition of the road surface. In real time, the technology warns drivers of icy sections of the road and also informs utilities to start work.

In addition to the Swedish automaker, the new project involves the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the Swedish Ministry of Transport. Now 50 vehicles are taking part in the tests, equipped with special sensors that record the parameters of the asphalt.

Such cars, having detected a slippery surface on some section of the road, send this information to the Volvo cloud service. The warning is then instantly transmitted to other vehicles in the vicinity of the section of road found in poor condition. Data about this is displayed on the dashboard, and a special application allows you to calculate the degree of danger for the driver, taking into account the current speed and road conditions. "Communication" of cars is carried out using cellular networks.

Informed about the ice, motorists will be able to slow down in advance or choose detour routes. Data on the poor condition of roads is also received by the competent services responsible for their maintenance. They will be able to quickly respond to weather changes that worsen the quality of highway coverage, as well as more efficiently serve the road infrastructure in winter.

By quickly receiving information from a large number of vehicles, utilities, for example, can use less salt and various chemicals, which will reduce the negative impact on the environment, said Erik Israelsson, project manager for intelligent transportation systems at Volvo Cars. According to him, the possibility of car interaction will help improve road safety, make driving comfortable for drivers, and city traffic more efficient.
