Fundamentals of First Aid (OPMP)

Quincke's edema - angioedema with spread to the skin, subcutaneous tissue, mucous membranes. As a rule, it proceeds with the spread of edema to the larynx, with pronounced suffocation.

Evidence

Initially, a barking cough appears, hoarseness of voice, difficulty in breathing, shortness of breath. The face becomes cyanotic, then white. Death can occur from suffocation, so such patients require emergency intensive care, up to a tracheostomy. Edema can be localized on the mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract and stimulate the clinic of "acute abdomen"; can be localized on the face, mimicking Minier's syndrome - with headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness. When the meninges are involved in the process, lethargy, headache, vomiting, convulsions appear. ?

First aid

Call for specialized medical attention immediately.

Urgently give a tablet of Diphenhydramine, Suprastin or Pipalfen.

Organize a hot foot bath.

Hospitalization is required. With swelling of the larynx, the patient is hospitalized in the ENT department, since at any time there may be a need for surgical intervention - tracheostomy. With swelling of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, hospitalization in the surgical department is mandatory. With neurological symptoms, hospitalization in the neurological department is indicated.
