Shock - this is a complex reaction of the body to painful stimuli, which occurs with severe injuries and fractures, accompanied by blood loss. The state of shock is characterized by a sharp decline in strength and a decrease in all vital functions of the body: breathing becomes superficial, blood pressure drops, cold sweat appears, and a state of stupor sets in.

First aid for shock consists in stopping bleeding, immobilizing fractures, applying bandages, and administering an analgesic. Then the victim needs to be warmed up: cover with a blanket, cover with heating pads and, if there is no damage to the abdominal cavity, give him hot tea, coffee or warm salted water (for 1 liter of water 1 ... can be delivered to a medical facility faster and more carefully.

At defeat electric shock the victim must be freed from the influence of the voltage source as soon as possible - turn off the current with a switch, remove the fuses, cut the wires.

When removing current-carrying wires or objects from the body of the victim, it is necessary to strictly observe safety measures so that the person providing assistance avoids electric shock.

For example, the wire is cut on both sides of the victim, since it is not known where the current comes from. The ax must have a dry wooden handle. If the bare wire lies on the victim, it must be thrown off with a pole, dry stick, board or fire hook, the shaft of which must be dry (Figure 7).

Sometimes the victim can be pulled away from the conductive object, taking him by the clothes, but it is necessary to avoid touching the surrounding metal objects and the victim's body. The person providing assistance should put a dry board or glass under his feet, put dry gloves on his hands or wrap them with dry rags.

After separating the victim from the current source, he is immediately assisted: if necessary, artificial respiration and indirect heart massage are performed, bandages are applied to the burnt places.

When drowning, the victim experiences paralysis of the respiratory center after 4 ... 5 minutes, and cardiac activity can last up to 15 minutes, so timely, correct and energetic actions can prevent death.

In a person taken out of the water, the mouth and throat are cleaned of silt, earth and mucus with a finger wrapped in a scarf or gauze. Then the rescuer, putting the victim on his bent knee with his stomach so that his head is down, and presses hard on his back several times, thus removing water from the lungs and stomach (Figure 8).

In case of respiratory and cardiac arrest, it is necessary to immediately begin artificial respiration "mouth-to-mouth" or "mouth-to-nose" and chest compressions.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The deadly harm of electronic cigarettes 17.09.2018

When using e-cigarettes, a significant proportion of cancer-causing chemicals are deposited in the lungs, scientists from the University of Nevada and the Desert Research Institute have concluded.

During the experiment, experts analyzed the concentration in the body of 12 people before and after using electronic cigarettes of aldehydes, dangerous toxins, some of which cause cancer.
Scientists compared the level of toxins in the smoke from an electronic cigarette and in the air exhaled by the participants in the experiment during smoking.

According to the results of the experiment, it was possible to establish that the average concentration of aldehydes in the exhaled air is ten and a half times higher after a session of smoking electronic cigarettes than before it.

The scientists also found that the concentration of hazardous substances such as formaldehyde in the exhaled air is hundreds of times lower than in the smoke of an electronic cigarette, which indicates the deposition of a significant amount of this substance in the human body. The experiment demonstrated the potential harm of e-cigarettes due to aldehydes in their smoke, the researchers concluded.

Previously, scientists have said that the use of electronic cigarettes increases the risk of developing oral cancer about as much as smoking regular cigarettes.
