If a person has bleeding wounds it is important to stop the bleeding as soon as possible. This can be done most quickly by pressing the blood vessel against the adjacent bone with a finger (Figure 1).

Techniques and methods for stopping bleeding, the rules for applying bandages for wounds

Fig.1. Places for pressing arteries to stop bleeding from vessels: a - main places for pressing arteries: 1 - temporal; 2 - occipital; 3, 4 - sleepy; 5 - subclavian; 6 - axillary; 7 - shoulder; 8 - beam; 9 - elbow; 10 - femoral; 11 - anterior tibial; 12 - posterior tibial; b - examples of finger pressure

In case of bleeding from head wounds, the temporal artery is pressed in front of the ear tragus, at the level of the eyebrow; when bleeding from wounds, the cheeks or lips press the mandibular artery on the lower jaw against the small molar; bleeding from wounds of the head and face can also be stopped by pressing one of the carotid arteries (on the side of the larynx) to the cervical vertebrae.

Bleeding from the brachial artery can be stopped by pressing a tight roll of cotton into the armpit; from wounds on the leg - by pressing the femoral artery in the middle of the inguinal fold (Figure 2).

Severe arterial bleeding from wounds on the extremities is stopped by applying a tourniquet or twist above the wounds (Figure 3). Before applying a tourniquet (rubber), it is necessary to put a soft lining of cloth, cotton wool or gauze under it. The tourniquet is slightly stretched and several turns are made around the limb one to the other. to form a wide pressing surface; the ends of the bundle are fastened with a hook and chain or tied.

Fig.3. The use of a tourniquet and twist to stop bleeding: a - the imposition of a rubber tourniquet; b - the imposition of a cloth tourniquet; c - application of twist

A cloth tourniquet - cotton braid - is thrown over the limb and wound in several layers. The free end of the braid is then threaded into the buckle, tightened as tight as possible, and secured with a twist. In the absence of a tourniquet, you can use improvised means (rope, scarf, bandage, trouser belt), with which a twist is applied. A tourniquet (twist) is applied for no more than 1,5 ... 2 hours, and in cold weather - no more than 1 hour, otherwise necrosis of the limbs may occur.

The time of applying the tourniquet (twist) must be noted (with a pencil, pen) on the bandage itself or on the paper that is placed under the tourniquet (twist). Another reliable way to stop bleeding from wounds of the limbs is the maximum flexion of the limb in the joints with its fixation in this position (Figure 4).

Fig.4. Techniques for stopping bleeding with maximum fixed flexion of the limb

Any wound can become dangerous not only as a result of bleeding, but also due to infection with microbes. To avoid this, it is forbidden to touch the wound with your hands, remove deep-seated fragments (foreign bodies) from it, and remove the remnants of clothing adhering to it. A piece of sterile gauze or bandage is usually placed on the wound. They bandage, as a rule, from left to right, closing the previous one half the width of the bandage with each new turn, from the narrow part of the body to the wider one, i.e. from bottom to top (Figure 5).

In case of penetrating wounds of the abdomen, the wound is closed with a sterile napkin, and if the internal organs fall out, a cotton-gauze ring, a sterile napkin are applied around them and not tightly bandaged. It is forbidden to insert prolapsed internal organs into the wound. A victim with such a wound should not be allowed to drink, you can only moisten your lips with water.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Follow the eyes of the drunk 08.06.2002

Drinking alcohol is known to disrupt coordination between the hands and eyes. English engineers and physiologists from the University of Bristol propose to use this phenomenon to test the driver's sobriety.

When the road turns, the driver's eyes tend to look around the bend. Following the gaze, the hands begin to turn the steering wheel. A device has been created that monitors the eyes of the driver and the steering wheel. In a normal case, the turn of the eyes is ahead of the turn of the hands by 0,75 seconds. After taking a dose of alcohol permitted by the English traffic rules, the lead is reduced to half a second, and after four glasses of vodka - to a quarter of a second.

The device can warn the driver that it is better for him to stop and give way to someone behind the wheel. Another version is even able to turn off the engine on its own and contact the police.

Now the university is busy patenting the device and looking for those who want to produce it.
