Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Universal wireless charger from Samsung 17.05.2012

Samsung has formed an alliance with Qualcomm and others to standardize and distribute wireless charging for smartphones and tablets.

Korean company Samsung Electronics, the largest manufacturer of mobile phones, and Qualcomm, a leading US manufacturer of processors for mobile devices, announced their intention to accelerate the development and standardization of wireless battery charging systems in portable electronics.

To this end, the partners formed an alliance called the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP), which, in addition to these companies, included: Ever Win Industries, Gill Industries, Peiker Acustic, Powermat Technologies and SK Telecom. The announcement was timed to the exhibition in the field of wireless telecommunications CTIA Wireless 2012 in New Orleans, USA.
The partners said in a statement that A4WP's activities will be dedicated to the development of wireless battery charging systems. And not only with the help of special docking stations, but also by installing charging circuits in furniture and car upholstery. The partners acknowledge that they plan to build on existing developments in this area. For example, Qualcomm's WiPower technology is "ideal to be considered by an alliance such as A4WP," the report says.

In addition, Samsung has already announced the introduction of wireless charging technology in a mass product - the new flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S III. Announcing the mobile phone last week, the company representatives said that one of the accessories to it will be a wireless charger. According to SlashGear, the accessory will go on sale no earlier than September.

The technology is found in other products that are already on the market. The wireless charging option, for example, is available on the Palm Pre smartphone, HP TouchPad tablet and Dell Latitude Z laptop, which uses technology developed by Fulton Innovation.

It's worth noting that A4WP is not the first alliance to focus on standardizing wireless chargers. In August 2009, the Wireless Power Consortium published a specification for a standard called Qi, which was intended to speed up the adoption of the technology to the masses. The first Qi-based product was announced in September of the same year.

According to IMS Research, by 2015 the global market for wireless charging devices will exceed 100 million in quantitative terms.
