Safe Operation

1. Introduction

1.1. This Instruction regulates the basic safety requirements when hanging the car and working under it.

1.2. An employee, when hanging a car and working under it, must:

  • comply with the requirements of the labor protection instruction developed on the basis of this instruction;
  • know and be able to provide first aid to the victim in accordance with "Instructions for providing first aid in case of accidents";
  • also follow the instructions of the representative of the joint committee (commission) for labor protection or the authorized (trusted) person for labor protection of the trade union committee.

Noticing a violation of safety requirements by another employee, warn him of the need to comply with them.

2. General safety requirements

2.1. Persons who have received an introductory briefing and primary briefing at the workplace on labor protection and trained in safe working methods are allowed to work independently on hanging the car and work under it.

2.2. An employee who has not undergone a timely re-instruction on labor protection (at least once every 1 months) should not start work.

2.3. When hanging a car and working under it, you need to know and remember that accidents can most often occur when:

  • improper installation of the jack in the process of hanging the car;
  • additional lifting by a second jack of a partially suspended car;
  • work under a suspended, but unreliably fixed car;
  • starting the engine of a suspended car;
  • improper lifting of the car with a hoist, hoist, forklift, lift;
  • hanging a part of the car when the car is not braked and not fixed (with chocks under the wheels);
  • the use of faulty equipment, tools and fixtures.

2.4. It is forbidden to use equipment, tools and devices, the handling of which the employee is not trained and instructed.

2.5. An employee who hangs a car and works under it must observe the rules of personal hygiene. Wash hands with soap and water after finishing work and before eating or smoking.

2.6. For non-compliance with the requirements of the instructions developed on the basis of this standard instruction, the employee who hangs the vehicle and works under it is liable in accordance with applicable law.

3. Safety requirements before starting work

3.1. Before starting work on hanging the car and working under it, the employee must:

3.1.1. Review and prepare your workspace.

3.1.2. Check the availability and serviceability of tools and fixtures.

4. Safety requirements during work

4.1. car hanging

4.1.1. Hanging a part of the car should be done with lifts, jacks or other lifting equipment.

In the absence of a lift, hanging a part of the car is done with a jack, a hoist or a loader. Hanging a part of the vehicle with a hoist or loader is only permitted using special lifting devices.

Do not hang part of the vehicle by hooking the hoist hook directly onto the vehicle's tow hook.

4.1.2. Before hanging a part of the car with a lifting mechanism, you must:

  • turn off the ignition (for gasoline engines), shut off the fuel supply (for diesel engines), close the main and supply valves (for LPG vehicles);
  • brake the car with a parking brake (when hanging the front wheels);
  • set the gearshift lever (controller) to the neutral position;
  • place special wheel chocks (shoes) in the amount of at least two under non-lifting wheels;
  • install the jack strictly vertically under the places specially designed for this on the car *;
  • when lifting with a hoist, the chain or cable must be in a vertical position;
  • lift smoothly, without jerks;
  • under the suspended part of the car, immediately install the trestles and lower the suspended part of the car onto them **.

* When installing the jack on the ground, it is necessary to put a wide solid board under the jack support.

** When changing a wheel on the line, you can use the stands included in the car's standard kit instead of the trestles. It is forbidden to increase the height of the trestles by lining foreign objects (boards, bricks, etc.).

4.1.3. To hang the car (its part) it is allowed to use only hoisting mechanisms and trestles, the permissible load on which does not exceed the weight of the part of the car being lifted.

Lifting mechanisms and traguses must have a tag or inscription indicating the carrying capacity and the test period.

4.1.4. It is forbidden to use faulty lifting mechanisms and traguses and use random objects as tragus.

4.1.5. The car can be suspended on a lifting mechanism (except for a lift) for the time required to install the trestlers (when replacing a wheel on the line - a standard stand). When installing traguses on both sides of the suspended part of the car, it is necessary to use tragus only of the same height and install them in the places provided for in the operating instructions for this car model.

4.1.6. It is forbidden to make an additional lifting with the second jack of the car already hung on the jack, as this can lead to its fall.

If necessary, carry out additional lifting with a second jack, the suspended part of the car should be lowered onto the trestle, and then additional lifting should be carried out.

4.1.7. Before lifting the car with a lift, it is necessary to ensure that all paws - pickups are securely installed under the car and there are no distortions during lifting.

4.1.8. When servicing a car on a lift (hydraulic, electromechanical), a sign with the inscription "Do not touch - people are working under the car" must be posted on the lift control panel.

4.1.9. In the working (raised) position, the plunger of the hydraulic lift must be securely fixed with a stop (bar), which guarantees the impossibility of spontaneous lowering of the lift.

4.1.10. When working on a turntable (tipper), you must first securely fasten the car on it, drain the fuel from the fuel tanks and the liquid from the cooling system, tightly close the engine oil filler neck and remove the battery.

4.2. Working under a lifted car

4.2.1. It is forbidden to carry out any work under the car (on a car) hung on lifting mechanisms (with the exception of lifts), without installing it on the trestles.

4.2.2. Before starting work, it is necessary to check the fulfillment of the conditions specified in clause 4.1.2.

In case of non-compliance with the safety requirements specified in clause 4.1.2, the worker must perform the relevant operations himself.

4.2.3. It is forbidden to start the engine if:

  • the car is in a suspended state;
  • there are people under the car.

4.2.4. To work lying under the car, you must use a special sunbed.

4.2.5. It is necessary to ensure that the legs of the worker do not protrude from under the car in order to avoid hitting them with another vehicle.

4.2.6. In case of insufficient lighting while working under the car, you should use a portable serviceable lamp with a voltage of not more than 42 V or a portable electric torch.

5. Safety requirements in emergency situations

5.1. The employee must immediately inform the administration of the enterprise about each accident that he witnessed, and provide the victim with first aid, call a doctor, help deliver the victim to a health center or the nearest medical facility.

If an accident occurs with the employee himself, he should, if possible, contact the health center, report the incident to the administration of the enterprise or ask someone around to do it.

6. Safety requirements at the end of work

6.1. Upon completion of work:

6.1.1. Tidy up your workspace. Remove fixtures and tools in the place provided for them.

6.1.2. If the car remains on special stands (tragus), check the reliability of its installation. It is forbidden to leave the car, the unit, hung out only by the lifting mechanism.

6.1.3. Wash your hands with soap.

6.1.4. Notify your immediate supervisor of any deficiencies discovered during work.

Lamp on bioluminescent bacteria 26.01.2015

In nature, bioluminescent bacteria are found on the tentacles of a certain species of octopus, allowing it to glow in the dark: when exposed to oxygen, these microorganisms emit a soft blue light.

Dutch designer Teresa van Dongen designed the Ambio lamp as part of her graduation project at the Eindohven Design Academy, and students from the Delft University of Technology (Netherlands) helped her find the right bacteria.
