Safe Operation

General labor protection requirements

1. This instruction regulates the basic safety requirements for the movement of construction machines, vehicles and workers throughout the enterprise, and their observance is mandatory for all workers.

2. The movement of construction machines, vehicles and workers should be carried out in accordance with the established road signs and markings along certain routes indicated on the diagram posted at the entrance (entrance) to the territory of the enterprise (structural unit, asphalt plant, pulp and paper plant, quarry, etc. .).

3. When moving around the territory of the enterprise, the employee must know and remember that accidents can most often occur when:

  • exit of construction machines, vehicles from around the corner of the building, from the gates of the premises, from the territory of the enterprise and entry into them;
  • violation of the rules for maneuvering and movement of construction vehicles and vehicles in cramped conditions (narrow passages, passages between rows of vehicles and construction vehicles, etc.);
  • carrying (transportation) of objects that distract the attention of workers or limit the view of their path of movement;
  • movement of construction machines, cars and those working on slippery surfaces (ice, mud, etc.);
  • crossing access roads, driveways, walkways, inspection ditch, trenches, in galleries, etc.;
  • exceeding the established speed of movement of vehicles on the territory of the enterprise and inside the premises;
  • at the entrance (exit) from the production premises through the entrance (exit) gate.

4. Safe movement on the territory and industrial premises is determined by compliance with the following:

  • traffic rules;
  • rules for the technical operation of construction machines, apparatus, equipment, vehicles;
  • technological rules for the production of works;
  • internal labor regulations and labor discipline;
  • labor protection instructions;
  • fire safety regulations.

5. Driving a construction machine (bulldozer, motor grader, roller, cutter, asphalt paver, tractor, etc.), a car on the territory of the enterprise is allowed only to persons appointed by order of the enterprise and having a certificate for the right to drive construction machines and vehicles. This rule applies to all cases of driving a construction machine, car, including testing them after repair and maintenance.

6. Before starting the movement, the driver of the construction machine, the driver of the vehicle must:

  • make sure that there are no people in the way of the construction machine, car, as well as obstacles to their movement;
  • warn people nearby in which direction the construction machine, car will move;
  • in the dark, turn on the lighting of the construction machine, car (side lights and dipped headlights);
  • carefully inspect the engine and mechanism components, check their serviceability and condition of lubrication, check the reliability of the brakes, control frictions and, if necessary, adjust them so that they turn on easily and quickly (the brake bands should slow down when the lever is lightly pressed);
  • check the condition of the guards of the rotating parts;
  • check the condition of the engine filling and whether there is enough water in the cooling system.

7. When leaving the gate of the premises (entry) in reverse, the driver, the driver must make sure that there are no people and other obstacles in the way, or contact the foreman (foreman, head of the section, workshop) with a request to appoint an assistant (controller) who led would exit (entry).

8. The driver of a construction machine, the driver must not move on a mechanism, a car with a faulty brake system and lever, steering, as well as in the case when other malfunctions of the mechanism, the car threaten traffic safety.

9. When driving in industrial premises, as well as on the territory of the enterprise, the driver of the construction machine, the driver must not exceed the established speed limit:

  • on the territory of the enterprise, the speed of movement is established by an order for the enterprise, taking into account local conditions and ensuring traffic safety, but not more than 20 km / h;
  • indoors - no more than 5 km / h.

10. Testing and testing of brakes on the move is allowed only in a place specially designated for this purpose.

11. The driver of the construction machine, the driver must be careful when:

  • exit from the gate (entrance) and detour of industrial premises;
  • driving in cramped conditions and limited visibility (between rows of construction vehicles, cars, etc.);
  • moving through production areas where people can work.

12. When moving construction machines, vehicles across the territory and in production premises, it is prohibited for people to be on the steps and fenders of construction machines and vehicles.

13. The driver of a construction machine, a car driver is prohibited from using auxiliary vehicles (other construction machines, cars and other moving mechanisms) for towing without the permission of the head of the site.

14. When the car is stopped, the driver, leaving the cab, must secure the car from spontaneous movement (turn off the ignition or cut off the fuel supply, set the gear lever to the neutral position, brake with the parking brake).

If the car is standing even on a slight slope, it is necessary to additionally place special wheel chocks (shoes) under the wheels.

15. Employees of the enterprise must be careful:

  • when moving in areas of possible movement of road vehicles, mechanisms, cars, especially in the presence of objects that limit visibility. When exiting from behind standing construction machines, cars, from behind the corners of buildings, from the gate, it is necessary to stop and inspect the path of movement to ensure the safety of further movement; skip moving traffic;
  • when carrying (transporting) objects that restrict the view of the path of movement and the environment, as well as when driving on slippery surfaces and at night;
  • when moving in narrow aisles between construction machines, cars (especially with a running engine);
  • when moving in industrial premises to go through inspection ditches, trenches. Use only walkways equipped with railings.
  • 16. An assistant (regulator) assisting the driver of a construction machine, the driver when maneuvering a construction machine, a car in a limited area, must choose a place that guarantees his personal safety.

Labor protection requirements in emergency situations

17. In the event of a sudden shutdown of the working lighting and the inclusion of emergency lighting, the employees of the enterprise must disconnect the equipment, tools from the mains, tidy up the workplace and stop working.

18. About each accident that occurred at the enterprise, as well as in the event of emergency situations or situations that may lead to undesirable consequences, the employees of the enterprise must immediately inform the foreman (foreman, head of the section, shop).

19. In case of accidents, provide first aid to the victim in accordance with "Instructions for providing first aid in case of accidents".

Occupational safety requirements at the end of work

20. Upon completion of work, you should:

  • put a construction machine, a car in a specially designated place, without creating obstacles to the movement of other construction machines and cars;
  • turn off the engine, disengage the clutch, put the gear lever in neutral position;
  • brake the machine, lower the work equipment to the ground, lock the cab.

21. When building machines and vehicles are stored outside the garage in winter, drain water from the radiator and engine.

22. Take off overalls and safety shoes and put them in a specially designated place, wash your face and hands with warm soapy water or take a shower.

Washing hands in oil, gasoline, kerosene and wiping them with contaminated rags is prohibited.

23. Report to the foreman (foreman, head of the site, workshop) about the completion of work and about all the problems that occurred during the work.

Scientists are developing artificial photosynthesis to make food production more energy efficient on Earth, and perhaps one day on Mars.

Researchers at the University of California at Riverside (USA) used a two-step electrocatalytic process to convert carbon dioxide, electricity and water into acetate, the form of the main ingredient in vinegar. Food-producing organisms consume acetate in the dark to grow. 

"Through our approach, we sought to define a new way of producing food that could overcome the limitations of biological photosynthesis," said author Robert Ginkerson, assistant professor of chemical and environmental engineering at the University of California, Riverside.

To bring all the components of the system together, the scientists optimized the power of the electrolyser to support the growth of food organisms. Electrolyzers are devices that use electricity to convert raw materials such as carbon dioxide into useful molecules and products. The amount of acetate produced has been increased and the amount of salt used has been reduced, resulting in the highest levels of acetate ever produced in an electrolytic cell to date.

Experiments have shown that a wide range of food organisms can be grown in the dark right at the exit of the electrolyser rich in acetate. Among these food organisms are green algae, yeast, and fungal mycelium, which produce fungi. Producing algae with this technology is about four times more energy efficient than growing it with biological photosynthesis. Yeast production has proven to be about 18 times more energy efficient than its conventional cultivation method, using sugar extracted from corn.
