BLE chip CC2640R2

12.04.2017

The new CC2640R2F BLE chip is a version of the CC2640 with an increased ROM capacity to house most of the Bluetooh low energy stack 4.2 code along with the TI-RTOS operating system components. Now a typical BLE application for a BLE 4.2-enabled peripheral leaves about 80 kB of FLASH memory free, versus 31 kB for the CC2640F128.

In terms of hardware, the new chip comes in the same packages and is fully pin and connection compatible with the CC2640F128. All external components, including quartz, DC/DC converter binding elements and LC matching elements in the antenna matching circuit remain unchanged. This means that in an already developed device, the CC2640F128 chip can be replaced by the CC2640R2F without making any changes to the product circuit.

To get acquainted with the capabilities of the CC2640R2F and develop BLE applications, Texas Instruments releases the SIMPLELINK_CC2640R2_SDK 1.30.00.25 software package designed for compilation in the CCS7.1 environment. When installing the package, the developer receives a set of directories with TI-RTOS, a BLE stack, peripheral drivers, and ready-made sample applications.

Features of SIMPLELINK_CC2640R2_SDK 1.30.00.25 software:

A complete free Bluetooth 4.2 stack supporting all device types: Peripheral, Central, Broadcaster and Observer.
Support for all features of BLE version 4.2 LE: Secure Connections, Data Length Extension and Privacy 1.2.
The ability to work as a single-chip functionally complete device or as a "Network BLE controller" under the control of an external microcontroller.
Full integration with TI-RTOS for real-time applications with flexible power management.
Multi-role mode with 8 simultaneous connections.
Supports over-the-air firmware update using external or built-in FLASH memory.
Includes BT SIG approved HID over GATT (HOGP), Glucose and Heart Rate and custom TI Audio and firmware update (OAD) profiles.
Supports automatic code generation for Bluetooth GATT profiles using the Bluetooth Developer Studio (BDS) software plugin.
Simple Micro BLE Stack configuration for Beacon mode.
Free code generation option in the Code Composer Studio (CCS) v7.1 development environment.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Cyborg bugs instead of drones 04.04.2016

The place of drones may soon be taken by remotely controlled cyborg beetles. The results of the successful management of live insects were demonstrated by American and Singaporean engineers.

Insects are controlled with electrodes and backpacks with electronics mounted on their backs. Electrodes attached to the limbs, visual lobes of the brain and muscles of the beetles are activated by radio signals - and the biorobots begin to move at a given speed, take off and land, turn in flight.

There is no need for constant monitoring by the operator: the beetles independently maintain the set course, and a person needs to intervene only to change the route.

It is emphasized that the use of living "robots" allows saving on equipment. "Unlike "iron" robots, which need hundreds of parts, sensors and servomotors, insect-computer hybrid systems use living organisms as ready-made natural robots," the authors of the article write. The cost of "stuffing" one biorobot does not exceed seven US dollars.

The test subjects for engineers were large bronze Mecynorrhina torquata (weigh about eight grams) - they can carry heavy loads: a microphone and a temperature sensor. Electronics are attached to beetles using wax that is harmless to health.

In the future, the researchers plan to switch to remote (wireless) control of cyborg beetles, as well as change lithium batteries to batteries recharged by solar energy.
