Cooked rice is dangerous to health

13.04.2017

Scientists from the University of North Carolina during the study found that boiled rice can be deadly to humans.

As it turned out, not all bacteria in rice are destroyed during cooking. Rice contains pathogenic bacteria that can cause serious poisoning. Bacteria adapt to high temperatures and survive even after cooking. These include the bacterium Bacullus cereus. According to scientists, about 60 thousand people died from the use of boiled rice in the world.

During the study, experts found that rice should not be stored at room temperature, as this can lead to sudden poisoning. After cooking, the cereal should be put in the refrigerator so that the bacteria cannot become active.

According to experts, this treatment is not capable of destroying all types of microorganisms that enter the rice from the soil. Then their spores begin to grow and multiply, and also release dangerous toxins into the product. If a person consumes such a dish the next day, the probability of poisoning can increase to 100%, so do not risk your health and put the dish in a cold place.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Sound gun vs smart devices 06.08.2017

Alibaba Security has unveiled a technology for influencing sound and ultrasound on "smart" devices, the operation of which depends on the functioning of gyroscopes, accelerometers and other sensors based on microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). Such a sonic "cannon" could theoretically be used to shoot down drones, disorientate robots, virtual and augmented reality systems, and attack the systems of self-driving robotic cars.

Most gyroscopic sensors use microelectromechanical systems with one or two mechanical oscillatory elements. Each of these elements oscillates at its own resonant frequency, which depends on the spatial position of the sensor, on the speed of movement and on acceleration. And the signal of such a sensor is the result of subtracting or adding the oscillation frequencies of the sensitive elements. An external source of oscillations, the frequency of which corresponds to the resonant frequency of oscillations of the sensor elements, can interfere with the operation of this sensor, forcing it to transmit distorted and unreliable data to the device.

Wang Zhengbo and Wang Kang, researchers at Alibaba Security, demonstrated how their custom-tuned ultrasound generator caused some of the components of the Apple iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 mobile phones to stop working. In a further demonstration, the researchers showed how exactly the same method disables a DJI drone, virtual reality glasses, and a toy robot that can move independently and maintain balance.

To a lesser extent, the vulnerability to this type of attack was demonstrated by the Xiaomi electric scooter, whose durable plastic case suppressed acoustic vibrations, preventing them from penetrating into the area where the MEMS sensors were located. However, in this case, the problem is easily solved only by increasing the power of the emitter.

Scientists have demonstrated this kind of vulnerability in devices with MEMS sensors in order for manufacturers to take this into account and take appropriate measures. Fortunately, this can be done quite simply by placing special sound insulation around the sensors or control controllers, which effectively works in the resonant frequency range of the sensors. And such protection methods should become an integral part of devices, the incorrect operation of which can become a threat to human life or health.
