Scientists believe that global warming has become irreversible

Researcher Marcus Rex, who led the largest Arctic expedition in history, argues that "the tipping point for irreversible global warming has probably already arrived."

“Only an assessment in the coming years will allow us to determine whether we can leave year-round Arctic sea ice with the help of a harsh climate. The disappearance of summer sea ice in the Arctic is one of the first land mines in this minefield, one of the tipping points that we begin when we go too far into warming. And one can essentially ask if we have stepped on this mine and have not counted the beginning of the explosion," the scientist noted.

Rex believes that Arctic summer sea ice loss in the spring of 2020 has been faster than ever. The expert came to such conclusions after 389 days of drifting through the North Pole.
