Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

WDM system with maximum spectrum efficiency 02.06.2012

Huawei has unveiled a prototype WDM system, which is an upgraded version of 50GHz fixed-spaced commercial equipment. According to the company, the prototype WDM system has the highest spectrum efficiency among existing WDM solutions. It supports various channel spacing with a minimum spacing of 12,5GHz, which not only improves the spectrum efficiency and flexibility of the WDM system, but also lays the foundation for multi-carrier and next-generation optical networks with speeds above 100G and adjustable bandwidth. . This highly efficient spectrum technology will enable operators to build WDM networks that meet the needs of subscribers in the future.

The popularity of broadband services has led to a rapid increase in transmission capacity and accelerated the transition to 100G systems. Providers are now targeting technologies above 100G WDM with multi-carrier support, also known as 400G and 1T transmission solutions. All current WDM systems have 50 or 25 GHz channel spacing, such spectrum efficiency is not sufficient for 400G or 1T multi-carrier transmission networks. Huawei's new WDM prototype improves spectrum efficiency in large capacity WDM systems. This compact solution will provide denser placement of high-speed carrier channels and more complete use of the optical fiber's spectral resource.

WDM prototype supports 40G, 100G, 400G and 1T simultaneous transmission. In addition, it is compatible with legacy systems with 50 or 25 GHz channel spacing. In practice, this means a smooth upgrade from 40G and 100G systems to 400G and 1T systems with effective investment protection for existing networks.

Spectrum Efficiency Technology is one of the core technologies of next-generation optical networks with adjustable bandwidth. The signals of such networks provide automatic adjustment of the modulation mode and transmission rate depending on the length of the line and service capacity, as well as a constant change in the range of the spectrum used. The 12,5 GHz step provides more flexible bandwidth, transmission distance and frequency range, which frees up frequency resources for data transmission.

Jack Wang, president of Huawei's transport network equipment division, said, "The creation of the world's first 10 petabit optical switch prototype and 400G DWDM prototype allowed users to take a look at next-generation optical networks with a high spectral efficiency WDM system prototype. Huawei is focused on creating innovative optical network solutions, which makes a significant contribution to the development of next-generation broadband networks and optical data transmission technologies."
