Safe Operation

1. General requirements for labor protection

General labor protection requirements are set out in the instructions "General requirements for labor protection for workers engaged in logging and forestry work".

2. Labor protection requirements before starting work

2.1. Get an indication from the foreman or foreman on which cutting area to perform delimbing. Unauthorized transition to other cutting areas is not allowed.

2.2. Check the serviceability of the knotting ax.

2.3. The ax must be of good quality, serviceable, sharp and correspond to the work performed, and also meet the following requirements:

  • the ax handle must be smooth, made of dry and strong wood, with a thickening at the end for a secure hold in the hands, and must be wedged in the eye of the ax;
  • the angle of the attachment of knotting axes should be 84 °;
  • the length of the ax handle should correspond to the height of the worker: if the end of the ax is held with the fingers of a vertically lowered hand, the ax should touch the ground.

2.4. If defects are found, take measures to eliminate them; if it is impossible to cope on your own, report to the master. It is not allowed to work with defective hand tools.

3. Labor protection requirements during work

3.1. The employee must perform only the work that is entrusted to him by his immediate supervisor.

3.2. Before starting work, you should inspect the workplace and plan the sequence of cleaning trees from branches; if necessary, clear the paths to the trees.

3.3. When pruning limbs, you must take a stable position.

3.4. Branching should be carried out in the direction from the butt to the top alternately from the sides and top of the trunk. The worker should be on the side of the tree opposite from the side of the tree being cut off.

3.5. The minimum distance between two workers when delimbing is 5 m. It is forbidden for several workers to cut branches from one tree.

3.6. Tense branches should be cut off after clearing a part of the trunk from neighboring branches. The worker should not be on the side of the movement of the branch released from tension.

3.7. It is not allowed to cut branches:

  • standing on a fallen tree or saddle it;
  • at an unstable lying tree without taking measures to strengthen it;
  • in the process of moving trees;
  • on trees grouped in bundles or stacks.

3.8. Before delimbing trees lying along the slope with a steepness of 20° or more and across the slope with a steepness of 15° or more, measures should be taken to secure the trees, and the operation should be carried out while standing on the upland side.

3.9. It is not allowed to hold the ax in the hands or behind the belt when carrying and collecting branches, and also to throw it over for transfer to another worker.

3.10. The branches should be carried in a volume that allows you to see the road in front of you.

3.11. In case of clear cuts, when the collection of branches in the cutting area after the end of skidding of the forest is carried out in a mechanized way, it is necessary:

  • before starting work, cross the deadwood into segments 3-4 m long;
  • collection of branches with a pick-up should be carried out no closer than 5 m from the forest wall, seed curtains and individual trees;
  • workers preparing the cutting area for pick-up operation should be no closer than 30 m from the pick-up work site.

3.12. Branching on windfall trees should be done after sawing off the butt block.

3.13. Additional delimbing of whips should be carried out in accordance with the requirements of paragraphs. 3.2 - 3.6 of this manual.

3.14. In order to avoid littering of workplaces in places of concentrated cutting or additional cutting, branches should be removed as they accumulate.

4. Labor protection requirements in emergency situations

4.1. Work must be stopped during heavy rain, thunderstorms, heavy snowfall, thick fog (visibility on flat terrain less than 50 m, in mountainous terrain less than 60 m) and wind speeds over 11 m/s on flat terrain and 8,5 m /s in mountainous conditions.

4.2. The victim or eyewitness must notify the foreman or the appropriate work manager of each accident.

4.3. Each worker must be able to provide first aid. Assistance must be provided immediately at the scene of the incident. The first step is to eliminate the source of injury (turn off the engine, stop the mechanism, remove the victim from under the whip, etc.).

The provision of assistance should begin with the most significant that threatens the health or life of a person: in case of severe bleeding, apply a tourniquet, and then bandage the wound; if a closed fracture is suspected, apply a splint; with open fractures, you should first bandage the wound, and then apply a splint; for burns, apply a dry bandage; in case of frostbite, gently rub the affected area using soft or fluffy tissues.

If spinal injuries are suspected, the victim can only be transported in the supine position on a rigid base.

After providing first aid, the victim should be sent to the nearest medical facility.

5. Labor protection requirements at the end of work

5.1. Upon completion of work, you should:

  • clean the tool from sawdust and dirt;
  • notify the foreman or the relevant work manager of the shortcomings in the field of labor protection.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

EATON RMQ-Titan Panel Controls and Indications 22.01.2015

EATON produces a wide range of lighting equipment for visual control of the state of electrical installations and equipment for process control - buttons, lamps, switches, potentiometers of the RMQ-Titan M22 series for mounting on the electrical panel door.

Process control and visualization is an important part of process control. Powerful control and visualization systems such as SCADA are used to control complex switchgear installations. To control simple or local installations in place, they use lighting equipment and control devices mounted in the door of the electrical panel - buttons, lamps, switches, potentiometers.

The RMQ-Titan series makes extensive use of the principle of modularity, which allows you to create many configuration options from several standard elements, which makes it easier for the designer to select lighting equipment, and reduces logistics and warehouse costs. The equipment has high quality workmanship and high reliability, can work in any conditions, thanks to the maximum degree of protection - IP67 and IP69K. The use of LEDs instead of lamps made it possible to increase the vibration resistance and durability of the devices up to 100000 hours of continuous operation.

Using the special LabelEditor program, you can easily apply an image to a lamp, button and other equipment of the RMQ-Titan series. The image is applied with a laser and will never be erased, as is the case with conventional markers. A wide range of emergency buttons are available in various shapes, with additional contacts, and with a unique LED ring that allows you to visually determine the state of the emergency button from a distance.

EATON also offers kits (M22-BVP) which are complete products and one order number. An example of such a kit is a red 24 V DC lamp, fasteners and a contact group (M22-L-R+M22-A+M22-LED230-R). There are 20 kit options available for ordering, including buttons, lamps, switches and more complex devices.
