Currently, social emergencies that can cause riots occur quite often. An important role in their settlement belongs to specialists in the field of social security. They must have socio-psychological competence, be able to provide real help to people.

The indicators of the professional competence of these specialists include the ability to competently conduct negotiations with participants in mass actions, address the crowd, ensure the holding of special counter-propaganda events in the context of protests, unauthorized rallies, demonstrations, prevent panic and destructive actions during natural disasters, disasters, fires, terrorist acts, riots. Of great importance is the knowledge of the rules of behavior in the crowd, which is the driving force behind mass actions, including riots, as well as ways to protect people from their negative impact.

To survive in an extreme situation will help compliance with certain crowd rules:

  • one should not succumb to a general psychosis and strive to be saved at any cost. In order not to become a pawn in the crowd, it is necessary to turn off emotions and rely on reason - an analysis of the situation will help find the most promising ways of salvation;
  • one should not blindly obey the opinion of the crowd, no matter how true it may seem, - one must make an independent decision based on a specific situation;
  • it is not recommended to express or in any way show one's disagreement with the opinion and actions of the crowd, since it destroys dissidents and dissenters. Don't speak out, don't defend your opinion, don't engage in discussion in a crowd, focus on action, it's more important than words.

Stormy mass moods and feelings (joy, hatred, fear, etc.), as noted earlier, are very contagious, therefore mass psychosis must be resisted. You can not take on faith the rumors that exaggerate in the crowd. It is useful to look at yourself from the outside: self-criticism, irony and shame are good brakes for the beginning hysteria.

Can be used auto-training techniques: deep breathing, contemplation of motionless objects, talking to oneself, etc. Self-sobering techniques such as biting one's lips, pinching one's hand strongly, hitting one's cheek, or causing any other pain are good.

In a situation of mass psychosis, one should focus on loved oneswho need to be protected, which is possible only if the situation and their own mental state are fully controlled. The fact is that, as experience shows, social ties are destroyed under the influence of the crowd, people stop caring about their relatives and friends, sometimes they simply do not notice them. The man of the crowd becomes the enemy of his loved ones. There are cases when, in a fit of panic or hysteria associated with a demonstration of fanatical devotion to the leaders of the crowd (leaders of the pack), mothers forgot that their children were with them, and thereby doomed them to death.

Not to succumb to the negative influence of the crowd means to half win the battle for survival, since physical actions directly aimed at salvation are secondary in conditions of mass psychosis. If the mind is protected, it will teach the body how to get out of trouble alive and unharmed.

It must be remembered that the element of the crowd is the more destructive, the less well-educated its participants. In modern Russian conditions, in the event of an emergency, one must be prepared to act not among intellectuals and well-bred citizens, but in a crowd of ordinary people who are distraught from permissiveness and the consciousness of their impunity. Therefore, first of all, you need to take care of your physical protection.

Specific actions in situations associated with riots and the inadequate mental states of the crowd caused by them are to observe rulesrecommended by experts.

First of all, on days when there is a high probability of social tensions, or even during mass festivities, you should not go outside once again, especially with young children.

In crowded places:

  • if possible, it is necessary to avoid the most dangerous places (at the head of the marching column, at the rally podium, in the thick of the protesters, in places of concentration of law enforcement forces and forces opposing them); it is better to keep to the edge of the crowd, since in this case you can leave on time and without problems if riots begin;
  • one should understand the nature and direction of future human flows and individual jets - this is the way to salvation in the event of the onset of riots;
  • it must be remembered that in the crowd there is a chance to escape not when everyone is saved (in this case it is too late to do anything), but when panic and mass exodus are only expected;
  • if you find yourself in a raging crowd with friends and close acquaintances, then you can jointly resist general psychosis, try to get children, women, the elderly out of the crowd, and even somewhat weaken it with decisive actions;
  • if a provocateur appears in the crowd around you, disturbing those around you, you need to find a way to reason with him - in the most categorical form, order him to shut up, accuse him of malicious intent, seek help from representatives of law enforcement or other people, and ultimately use physical force, since to prevent mass riots are easier than stopping them later.

When a street crowd approaches:

  • you should quickly go into the side streets and alleys, using, if possible, through courtyards;
  • you can go to the nearest entrance, ask for asylum from its residents, or go up to the attic or roof of the house and wait out the riots there; if the entrances are closed, you should break any window on the first floor and take cover in the room;
  • in extreme cases, you need to climb onto the visor of a capital building, another stable elevation, or climb into the basement through a dormer window, hide under a nearby tram, trolleybus, heavy car, etc .;
  • you can’t run away from the crowd in the direction of its movement and into unknown lanes, as this, firstly, can provoke a chase, secondly, lead to a dead end where the crowd will overtake you, thirdly, you may find yourself between the crowd and the forces of law and order and suffer from both.

In a moving crowd

  • it is necessary to avoid places where the crowd comes into contact with buildings, especially shop windows, barriers, drainpipes;
  • you should "swim" in one direction, trying to stand on your feet;
  • it is recommended to remove scarves, ties, chains, glasses, tighten belts, belts, tie shoelaces tightly;
  • one should not try to resist the movement of the crowd, approach stationary objects, and even more so grab hold of them;
  • in no case should you bend down, straighten your shoes, pick up lost things - this can lead to a fall, which in a crowd is tantamount to death.

In a stressful crowd:

  • you should get rid of bulky things and empty your pockets;
  • if you have children with you, then you need to raise them above your head;
  • it is necessary to protect the chest with your hands, so they cannot be raised or lowered.

In an indoor crowd:

  • if there is a danger of crushing, you should remove glasses, jewelry, ties, scarves, lace up your shoelaces tightly, get rid of piercing, cutting, glass and bulky objects;
  • it makes sense to enter a panic-stricken crowd only in case of a rapidly spreading fire; it is safer to join the crowd where its density is low, or from above, through people's heads;
  • you can’t join the crowd from the side, bend down, pick up lost items from the floor;
  • try to avoid places of greatest pressure - constrictions, ledges, dead ends;
  • if possible, you need to use emergency exits, which at the initial moment of danger, as a rule, do not have a crush;
  • in a dense crowd, when there is no way to raise a child above his head, two adults should turn face to face and, resting against each other with arms bent at the elbows and pressed to the body, place him between them.

All of the above rules are not a guarantee against the negative consequences of mass riots, but they can help people with the least physical and moral losses for themselves to get out of a similar situation if they find themselves in it by the will of circumstances.

So, the riots, the carrier of which is the crowd, is a very dangerous social phenomenon, therefore, knowledge of the elementary rules of behavior in the crowd and the skills to apply them are important conditions for survival.

Conclusions

Mass riots are extremely dangerous. Their underlying causes lie in the negative mass moods, in the dissatisfaction with any social claims of large masses of people. The reason for the riots can be any external provocation associated with extreme manifestations of the life of society.

Social practice shows that the crowd is a serious threat both to its participants and to others, which is due to the deindividualization of a person in the crowd, the growth of his asociality, aggressiveness, and a decrease in self-control. The most dangerous is the politicized crowd, capable of the most destructive, extremely cruel and criminal actions.

Knowing the rules of behavior in a crowd, ways to protect yourself and others in conditions of riots and the ability to put them into practice is the chance that can help a person survive in a dangerous situation with minimal physical and moral losses.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

The Greenland ice sheet is melting catastrophically 08.04.2023

Scientists are becoming increasingly concerned about tipping points for climate change. In a new study, they identified two such tipping points for the melting of the 1,7 million square kilometer Greenland ice sheet and the second largest ice storage after Antarctica.

According to scientists' simulations, the release of 1000 gigatonnes of carbon into the atmosphere will lead to the complete melting of the southern part of the ice sheet. With emissions of 2500 gigatons, the entire ice sheet will melt irrevocably.

Since human activity began to noticeably affect the climate, 500 gigatonnes of carbon have been released into the atmosphere. This means that we are already halfway to losing a large number of the Greenland ice sheet.

"The first point of no return is not far from today's climate conditions, so we run the risk of crossing it. Once we start sliding, we will fall off this cliff and will not be able to climb back," said climate scientist Dennis Henning from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Research in Germany.

The scientists conducted complex modeling that took into account all the key climatic processes and factors affecting the melting of ice, including air and water temperature, ocean current activity and precipitation.

Even keeping the 1,5-degree Celsius temperature increase mandated by the Paris climate agreement would not be enough to prevent the Greenland ice sheet from melting, the researchers said.

Scientists also add that at the level of carbon emissions within 1000 gigatons, the sea level will rise by 1,8 meters, if they reach 2500 gigatons - by 6,9 meters.

Unfortunately, there are no signs of reducing emissions yet. Between 2003 and 2016, the Greenland ice sheet lost 255 gigatonnes of ice each year. A recent study showed that the island is losing ice at a much faster rate than previously thought. And this leads to sea level rise and other problems.
