Review

LG 7005

So, another representative of the LG family came to me for testing, namely the LG600, a fashion class phone. This clamshell with two displays is the second device of this class on our market (I remind you that the first one was Samsung SGH-A300). From myself, I note that the similarity between these devices is undeniable, especially considering that LG developed its phone with an eye on the already existing A300. Unfortunately, it was not possible to copy a successful model - the resulting device looks like an unwanted child.

I'll say right away that I don't have any negative feelings towards LG, and the tone of the review is explained only by the fact that the LG600 is a very crude product that cannot be positioned as a fashion class phone at all: this device is beyond any classification. It's a pity that people who promote the latest LG model in our market do not understand its weakness and consider it quite competitive, which is extremely far from the truth: LG600 sales are due solely to massive advertising, and not to the merits of the phone itself.

Design, battery

On the outer surface of the LG600 is a small display that serves to display information about an incoming call, as well as to indicate network signal levels and battery charge. In addition, other icons may be present on the screen, for example, the icon of a new SMS message or an alarm clock. In standby mode, the date and time information is replaced by the operator's network name. The resolution of this display - 96x12 pixels allows you to display 1 line of text and a line of icons. Dirty blue backlight is muted, dim.

The LG600 is small in size (80 x 44 x 24 mm) and weighs 95 grams. The design of the device, let's say, is somewhat clumsy (in my opinion, of course). On the left side surface are the volume keys and the recording key of the voice recorder. There is also a connector for connecting a telephone headset. The back cover of the phone, which covers the battery, protrudes above the body, and nothing can be done about it: this is the design feature of the LG600.

The battery itself, a 600 mAh lithium-ion battery, is hidden inside. According to the manufacturer, the device is able to work up to 150 hours in standby mode and up to 2.5 hours in talk mode. In fact, the phone works up to 3 days with 10 minutes of calls per day and minimal use of additional functions. The time to fully charge the battery is about 2 hours. However, during the operation of the phone, it turned out that in an area with a weak signal, the device does not work in standby mode for very long and even in the absence of calls it can be completely discharged twice as fast as the instructions say. Here's the most telling example: LG600 with two out of three battery indicator bars was left overnight in a place with poor reception - in the morning the battery was completely discharged. Other phones in similar conditions behaved normally, if the discharge was faster, then only a little bit.

Opening the clamshell, you see inside a large display with the same dirty blue backlight. Its characteristics are not bad: the resolution is 128x90 pixels, up to 4 lines of text. The undoubted disadvantage of the design is that the backlight of the internal and external display turns on at the same time, which leads to unnecessary energy consumption.

The keys of the phone are made of rubber and are deeply recessed into the case, which is not very convenient, however, you quickly get used to them, and subsequently they do not cause trouble. Navigation keys are provided, which greatly facilitate the movement through the menu. The backlighting of the keyboard is bright blue, apparently, this color was also intended for the display, but was not implemented. In the dark, the contrast between the display and the keyboard seems even stronger - the calm tones of the display are clogged by the harsh backlighting of the keyboard.

Menu and phone features

In the main menu, however, as in all submenus, the items are numbered, which allows you to use quick navigation. Navigation through the menu is carried out using the navigation and soft keys. Main menu icons are not animated and ugly. The menu leaves a feeling of confusion: many sub-items are placed separately, and this makes it difficult to navigate and memorize digital sequences. In order not to be unfounded, I will give an example. There are only 11 items in the Names menu: Search, Search e-mail, Add entry, Add e-mail, Groups, Speed dial, etc. Initially, only the first 4 items are visible on the screen, which is already inconvenient, since the need to search for postal addresses does not arise every day - these functions could be moved to the very end of the list. The voice dialing is moved to a separate menu, which, of course, is commendable and shows how reverently the developers reacted to this function. The problem is that you can only assign a voice tag to a number in this menu - you cannot do this from the phone book. It's good at least that you can select a number by searching, and not dial it again. Voice dialing supports up to 20 tags, works well. You can set your phone so that when you open it, voice dialing is activated automatically.

Here is another example. The alarm clock is in the Settings/Time Settings menu, and not in Accessories, as one might think - not the most convenient location. Russification, as well as in the LG500, is very sloppy, the same shortcomings and errors. Let me remind you of the very eloquent name of one of the menu items - Converter and I will not mention the abbreviations, which are sometimes made contrary to all the rules of the Russian language. By the way, the alarm clock (set both for daily and one-time operation) functions even when the phone is turned off.

LG600 also doesn't differ from the previous model in terms of capabilities - I'll quote a passage from the review of this device again.

So, the first item of the main menu is Messages. In addition to the Inbox and Outbox folders for SMS messages, there is a Status item showing the last broadcast message. The Write item is used to create new messages. Unlike the LG200, there are no preset template functions in this model, but that's for the best. The phone supports Cyrillic letters, messages written in Russian are read correctly on other devices, for example Nokia 8210. There are no problems with receiving Russian messages either. Instead of templates, you can use your own blanks, since the memory of the phone and SIM card allows you to save up to 110 messages.

The phone book is designed for 500 names (for each name, however, only one phone), supports groups of subscribers - up to 10 groups of 20 names each. There is no special meaning in such a distribution, since it is impossible to assign personal ringing signals to different groups.

Let's consider additional features of LG600. The phone has profiles that can be called only through the menu, which is not always convenient. The soundtrack is turned off by long pressing the star key. True, if the battery runs out, the device will still squeak, although it should not.

The Organizer menu allows you to create small reminders. So, by selecting a day (i.e. entering a number), you can view the list of reminders or create a new one. There are 4 types of reminders: Schedule, Call, Note and Anniversary. For each of them, you can set a sound warning.

There are 5 games in the phone, the first two are variations on the theme of racing, in the first case - aircraft, in the second - automobile. The king of diamonds is one of the versions of Tetris, quite interesting. Stone Ax and Black Jack are boring in my opinion. It is pleasant to play because of the good soundtrack and vibration signals.

And now let's talk about the differences between LG600 and LG500. Firstly, the number of tones and melodies of the call - there are 30 of them in this device. The call is not polyphonic, but ordinary, the melodies are rude, but they are well audible. At maximum volume, the call can be heard from the pocket of a winter jacket. The vibrating alert in this model is not bad, it is well felt even from outerwear.

Impressions

The quality of communication provided by the LG600 is mediocre: in problem areas, metallic croaking or interference is often heard, sometimes the connection is even interrupted. Subjectively, the sensitivity of the phone is below average, while there are no problems in the reception area, the sound in the speaker is clear and strong. In general, the maximum volume of the speaker is very good - the interlocutor is clearly audible.

The list of missed numbers is not displayed when voice dialing is enabled when you open the phone, so you immediately go to the idle menu and do not see that someone called. There is only one way out, disable voice dialing when opening. The second disadvantage associated with call lists is that if you make a call to a certain number and they don't answer it, it will still be listed. Further, you call this number again, and again the number is listed and so on ad infinitum. Very soon you will find that there is only one phone on the list.

When calling numbers from the phone book, it is bad that only the name of the subscriber is displayed on the screen, the number is not shown. Having several entries with the same name (for example, Pasha) you will not know which number you are calling.

It is worth saying a few more words about localization. The attitude towards the buyer and the creation of the product is felt literally in everything. If the shortcomings of menu Russification can be attributed to technical difficulties, limited possibilities for displaying fonts, a small line size on the screen, then they are not in the printed instructions. Let's take a look at a few things that I found interesting.

So, unlike the manuals for other phones from this company, the manual for the LG600 is voluminous and includes both English and Russian versions. On the 13th page of the Russian version, the user learns about the existence of soft left and soft right keys in the phone. Thus, translators have interpreted the term soft key. (Reading the manual, one might assume that the rest of the keys are not soft, but hard.) On page 26, Voice Dialing says: "If you select On in Setup mode [7-3], you can only make voice calls."

In fact, of course, you can dial a number both with your voice and using the keyboard. Moreover, in the English version of the instructions, this paragraph is composed in exactly the same way - a mistake, and a very annoying one.

The manual is replete with similar "inaccuracies", I did not read it all - why do someone else's work ?! Let me just say that such blunders do not suit a large company that claims that it is going to play a prominent role in our market.

Now LG, not having its own high-quality phones, is trying to take advantage of the popularity of Samsung devices. By copying models, LG sets a lower price and wants to convince us that its phones are quite good and comparable to their counterparts from Samsung. Well, it's not like that, far from it. In the next year, we will not see new developments from LG (original developments!), because they simply have nowhere to come from. Everything that appears will be the borrowing of other people's models, and the borrowing is mainly external, since the implementation of most functions is likely to be much more primitive.

The comfort of using the phone is minimal, the operating time does not differ in duration, poor Russification, the presence of engineering problems. The most original device from the LG line is the LG500 with the only advantage - a polyphonic ring that surprises with its purity.

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
