For stationary repair of various electric drives, switches, electric pumps, and other equipment of modern cars, a laboratory current source is required, from which it would be possible to power the repaired device or charge the battery.

The current consumption of automobile drives can reach several amperes, and even a dozen amperes, which makes most of the laboratory current sources popular among radio amateurs unsuitable for such purposes. Therefore, they usually use a fully charged starter battery, or a charger built according to the "network transformer - rectifier" scheme. But this is not always convenient, especially if you need to check the operation of a certain device in a wide range of supply voltages.

Trying to convert a transformer charger into a regulated power supply in the traditional way, by installing a constant voltage transistor regulator at the output, leads to some difficulties associated with high output currents, the danger of short-term load current surges and short circuits.

In the event that it is not the output voltage of the charger that is regulated, but the alternating voltage that this charger is powered by.

For this, a simple triac power regulator will suffice, and through it apply voltage to the primary winding of the charger transformer.

In such designs, you can use any other triac or thyristor power controller for electrical appliances with a power of at least 600 watts.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

High-speed router Asus RT-AC3200 28.07.2015

Asus introduced the RT-AC3200 router. The novelty is equipped with six removable antennas that support two channels of Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2,4 GHz / 5 GHz) standard - three antennas for transmitting and three antennas for receiving. This solution has allowed Asus engineers to achieve unrivaled performance to date, with a maximum data transfer rate of 1300 Mbps (1,3 Gbps) on each frequency in the 5 GHz band.

With support for Broadcom TurboQAM technology, 802.11n (2,4GHz) Wi-Fi throughput increases from 450 Mbps to 600 Mbps for compatible devices. Thus, theoretically, the aggregate data transfer rate of the router can be 3200 Mbps, which, for example, is 3 times higher than the wired Gigabit Ethernet standard.

Asus engineers specifically point out that the average router on the market using the old 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi standards may slow down the data transfer rate of the faster 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard. ASUS RT-AC3200, in turn, uses a three-band Tri-Band Smart Connect technology, which automatically selects a channel for each device based on transmission speed, signal strength and congestion without user intervention.

Of the pleasant features, we note the presence of a hardware key on the device case that disables the operation of the LEDs - a very convenient solution if the router is in your bedroom.

The recommended retail price of the Asus RT-AC3200 is 280 USD.
