Citizen Watch and E Ink showcased the world's first electronic paper display (EPD) watch, measuring 53x130cm. It is unique in that it is flexible and only 3mm thick.

The display is characterized by increased brightness and contrast, which allows the device to be used both in darkened rooms and in bright sunlight, in addition, the viewing angle is almost 180°. The watch weighs only 1,5 kg, despite its solid size.

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. Israeli Butterfly Drone 19.01.2013

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is developing a miniature butterfly unmanned aerial vehicle. The device weighs only a few grams and can stay in the air for 20 minutes. Now an Israeli company is working on two winged prototypes: a small "butterfly" weighing eight grams and a large one, whose mass reaches 13 g. The devices are powered by a compact lithium-polymer battery weighing two grams. Each UAV is equipped with a microvideo camera weighing only 0,1 g.

The drones are driven by a compact electric motor running at 7000 rpm. The commands of the UAV operator are responded to using a flight control system with a mass of 3 g. The wings of the "butterfly" are made by hand from transparent carbon fiber. With the start of serial production of UAVs, components for drones are also planned to be put on the conveyor. Butterfly drones are expected to be used, in particular, in hostage-taking situations. Thus, the UAV equipped with a video camera and microphone will be able to discreetly reconnoiter the situation in the incident area.

According to Flightglobal, IAI engineers are creating a drone under the slogan "if nature can, we will try to imitate it." Work on the device began with the creation of a four-winged prototype, similar to a dragonfly. In the future, it is planned to teach the UAV to fly only on two wings. For this, in particular, it is required to correct the amplitude of their oscillations. As the interlocutor of the publication explained, this will take several months.

Earlier it was reported that Israel, with the support of the United States, is conducting research on the creation of cyborg insects. During the tests, scientists study the mechanics of the movement of flies, grasshoppers, beetles and dragonflies. It is also planned to use cyborg insects for reconnaissance purposes.
