Every time the time comes for canning vegetables and preparing juices, I catch myself thinking that again I will have to go to a neighbor for his juicer. It looks unpretentious and simple in design, but after working with it once, I can no longer force myself to use my industrial combine with an electric drive and numerous nozzles: after it, the whole kitchen will again have to be washed and all these nozzles cleaned.

Whether it’s a neighbor’s home-made thing: and then only three parts are washed, and the seeds and pulp do not get stuck, and the productivity is such that, although manually, I get a bucket of tomato juice in 30-40 minutes.

It is a pity that such devices are not on store shelves. Therefore, I decided to talk about the device of this combine on the pages of your magazine: maybe someone will make it for themselves, or maybe the industry will be interested.

Outwardly, the juicer resembles a meat grinder: it is also fastened with a clamp to the foot, the same socket of the loading window, the same handle. However, this is where the similarity ends, since the principle of operation is completely different: there is no auger and familiar knives inside, although there is a grate at the exit. Instead of a screw - a small drum with scrapers-knives. With their blades, they grab a tomato (or slices, if large) and drag it along when the handle is turned, pushing it into the narrowing gap between the body and the drum.

The device of the mechanism is extremely simple. The parts visible from the outside are the clamp, two lamellar bracket posts above it, a bin with a handle and a mesh window for juice and a pulp exit window, with two trays below them. Inside there is a single unit - a drum, and in it - plates of retractable scraper knives with a spacer spring. The drum with its thickened bottom with a threaded hole is screwed onto the shaft shank, which is connected to the drive handle. The shaft bearing and at the same time the stuffing box is a fluoroplastic bushing, the body of which is a steel bushing welded to the sidewall of the hopper.

The main parts of the juicer (click to enlarge): 1 - front wall of the hopper, 2 - pulp tray, 3 - pulp exit window, 4 - shaft, 5 - handle, 6 - drum, 7, 20 - side walls of the hopper (wall 20 - with a hole), 8 - knife (recessed), 9 - tomato, 10 - juice tray, 11 - rack, 12 - clamp, 13 - handle rod, 14 - axle, 15 - bearing housing, 16 - bearing (fluoroplastic sleeve), 17 - mesh (or perforated strip with holes Ø 1,5 mm), 18 - knife (in extended state), 19 - knife spring

A mesh (a perforated plate with a hole Ø 1,5 mm) is welded to the lower window of the hopper - through it the juice flows to a long tray, fixed with bent ears in specially sawn grooves of the bracket racks. The pulp tray is welded to the hopper below its top window.

The scrapers-knives are connected by a spacer spring. To do this, their plates are cut from below into three "petals": the two extreme ones are bent in opposite directions (stop), the middle one is inserted into the spring. At the top of the plate there is a lateral protrusion that limits its indentation into the slot of the drum.

Rice. 3. Drum assembly (assembly): 1 - handle, 2 - shaft, 3 - bearing housing, 4 - bearing (PTFE bushing), 5, 9 - hopper walls, 6 - drum, 7 - knives, 8 - spring

The handle with the shaft is assembled as a single unit. The second assembly unit will be a drum with knives on a spring. It is inserted on top of the bunker; then a shaft is inserted into the fluoroplastic sleeve, which is carefully screwed to the drum. It remains to install the juice tray - and the harvester is ready to work.

Due to the eccentric arrangement of the drum in relation to the walls of the body, the scraper knives sliding along them, the closer they are to the grid, more and more sink into the slot of the drum, and the tomatoes carried by them are squeezed more and more, kneaded. On the grid, they are already practically rubbed through its holes, completely releasing the juice under the pressure of the drum. And the almost dry pulp, which is then released at the exit from the grid, is pushed out by the knives through the window onto the discharge tray.

The mechanism is disassembled just as easily as it was assembled: the juice tray is removed, the shaft is unscrewed from the drum (by reverse rotation of the handle) and the freed drum with knives is removed from the hopper - everything can be washed.

It seems that this simple machine would be of great help to amateur gardeners and gardeners - after all, any soft fruits, berries and vegetables can be passed through it. The only exceptions are those that do not have seeds, but bones: they must first be removed, and the rest passed through a juicer.

The proposed design was designed for tomatoes and is designed for a maximum fruit diameter of 50-60 mm. When using the machine for other types of vegetables, berries, fruits, appropriate changes can be made to the dimensions of the hopper, drum and other components and parts.

I am sure: everyone who makes such a device will be satisfied.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Healthy teeth are the main secret of sexuality 16.01.2024

After conducting one of the studies, paleontologists identified a key factor in human sexual attractiveness. The study, carried out by researchers from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa and the European ESRF complex in France, reveals the impact of healthy and beautiful teeth on the chances of attracting the interest of the opposite sex.

The basis for the scientists’ conclusions was an evolutionarily developed mechanism. The study aroused interest in the fact that ancient herbivores (dicynodonts of the Triassic period) had sharp fangs. Unlike predators, for whom sharp teeth were typical, herbivores preferred flat ones, necessary for the consumption of plant food. The anti-predator hypothesis was rejected.

Experts came to the conclusion that sharp fangs served as a means of attracting the opposite sex. Teeth, as an element that helps attract a mate, were “used” more than 250 million years ago by ancient lizards, the possible ancestors of modern mammals, known as Choerosaurus dejageri. A study of the shape of the jaw and teeth of these animals showed that sharp fangs were used in “battles” for a partner, while being fragile for use in fights.

The role of sexual selection, as a special case of natural selection, has long been underestimated in evolution. Certain external features of animals, including dental health, had the ability to attract the attention of the opposite sex, considered a sign of beauty and good health, the scientists concluded.

Dental health influences sexual attractiveness has its roots in evolutionary strategies. This study highlights the importance of oral health care not only from a medical but also from a social perspective.
