What drink did the Germans invent, having lost the supply of ingredients for Coca-Cola?

At the beginning of World War II, the German Coca-Cola bottling factory lost its supply of ingredients from the United States. Then the Germans decided to produce another drink from food waste - apple pomace and whey - and called it "Fanta" (short for the word "fantasy"). The director of this plant, Max Keith, was not a Nazi, so the common belief that the Nazis invented Fanta is a delusion. After the war, Keith contacted the parent company, Coca-Cola regained ownership of the factory and did not abandon the new drink, which had already gained popularity.

Why do brides wear veils?

There are many different stories that tell about the origin of this custom. All of them belong to gray antiquity. We know that many ancient peoples had a custom not to show the bride to her future husband before the wedding.

So it was in Egypt, where the groom never saw the face of the bride until the wedding! When he removed the veil from the bride's face, this was one of the components of the wedding ceremony. This custom existed among the Arabs, and among the Hindus, and among other peoples of Asia and Europe.

The ancient Romans and Jews also had a similar custom. The bride was put on a veil, which was sometimes so large that it completely wrapped the figure of the girl. After the wedding, the veil was hidden away and taken out only when the woman was dying. But in our time, this custom is preserved simply to make the wedding more romantic and attractive: the veil symbolizes the beauty and modesty of the bride.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Iron rain over a hot planet 11.03.2020

Researchers at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) have discovered the giant exoplanet WASP-76b, where it rains hot liquid iron.

The exoplanet, located in the constellation Pisces, is located at a distance of about 640 light-years from Earth.

To observe the planet WASP-76b, scientists used a heavy-duty telescope with the ESPRESSO spectrograph installed at the European Southern Observatory (Chile).

This unusual phenomenon occurs because WASP-76b always faces its parent star on its day side. The temperature on this side reaches 2400 degrees Celsius. While on the night side, immersed in darkness, the temperature is lower: 1480 degrees Celsius.

Astronomers explained that very strong winds carry iron vapor to the cold night side. There they condense into drops of hot iron rain.
