When did the first world exhibition take place?

Fairs have long been one of the most popular ways to sell and buy goods. On the other hand, exhibitions served other purposes. They were intended to show the achievements of the industry and art of a particular country or several countries over a certain period.

The first exhibition, or "world's fair", was the Industrial Exhibition in Hyde Park, London, in 1851. The entire exposition was housed in one building, in the Crystal Palace. This building resembled a giant greenhouse and was built of metal and glass. It was destroyed by fire in 1936. The first international exhibition in America was held in New York in 1853. Although more than 5000 people took part in it, half of whom came from 23 countries, this exhibition was not a success.

The first major exhibition in the United States was organized in 1876 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to commemorate the centenary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Here, for the first time, thousands of people were able to get acquainted with products and manufacturers from all over the country. For the first time at this exhibition, Alexander Graham Bell demonstrated to the public the telephone he invented.

Other notable exhibitions include the 1951 Festival of Britain, organized to commemorate the centenary of the 1851 exhibition, and the hugely successful Expo 67 held in Canada.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Smart desk Lumina Desk 12.08.2022

Lumina has announced a height-programmable computer desk with a built-in 24-inch OLED screen and its own operating system. The display may seem out of place here, but Lumina believes that it really affects user productivity for the better.

Lumina Desk is equipped with an electric drive and a display, which is placed just between the monitor (laptop), keyboard and mouse. The table itself has a length of 1,5 m, and its height varies from 76 to 120 cm. The main idea is to use the place to good use. For example, the screen can display current tasks, calendar entries, stock prices, a social network feed, and much more. In other words, everything you need to keep at hand at all times. Most importantly, this solution eliminates the need to use multiple monitors for this.

To avoid accidental clicks, Lumina decided not to make the screen touch. Instead of touches and gestures, all manipulations are performed from the application. You can also not be afraid of stains and scratches - the table is covered with a layer of tempered anti-reflective glass with an oleophobic coating. The maximum screen brightness is 1200 nits and the refresh rate is 60Hz.

Wireless charging works across the entire surface of the table, there are also 6 conventional outlets and 6 USB-C ports located on the back of the hidden panel. By the way, USB-C can deliver a total of 120W (up to 30W each separately).

Lumina Desk is powered by Lumina OS operating system. Users can download and install various applications such as Google Calendar, Slack, Spotify and many more. In addition, you can set the time to raise and lower the table.

Lumina Desk will only be available for purchase next year. The company is currently open for pre-order applications to gauge consumer interest in this product. The price has not yet been decided, but they say that a computer desk with a screen will cost about $ 1000.
