In which country did viewers choose the reality show contestant who would get a donor kidney?

On July 1, 2007, the reality show "De Grote Donorshow" aired on the Dutch channel BNN. Its main character was a terminally ill 37-year-old woman who wanted to donate her kidney. Which of the 25 applicants will get this kidney was decided by the audience using SMS voting.

At the end of the show, it was announced that the woman was an actress and she had no illness, and the purpose of the program was to draw public attention to the lack of organ donors in the Netherlands. And although the authors of the show received a flurry of criticism for immorality, the number of registered donors in the country has increased dramatically.

Who are brontosaurs?

Brontosaurs are representatives of the family of dinosaurs - reptiles that lived in the so-called age of reptiles. This century began in a geological period called the Triassic, which began about two hundred and thirty million years ago. The last remains of dinosaurs were found in the rocks of the Cretaceous period, which ended about sixty-five million years ago. This means that the age of the dinosaurs lasted about one hundred and sixty-five million years.

Dinosaurs were land reptiles. And although some of them went into the water, they usually went into rivers, lakes or swamps, and not into the seas. Among them were both carnivorous dinosaurs and herbivores. Some of them walked on their hind limbs, others on all fours. They were cold-blooded animals, and most of their bodies were covered with scales. One group of large dinosaurs was called sauropods. They had huge paws, with five fingers each, similar to the paws of lizards.

Sauropods were the largest animals that ever lived on the planet. These include brontosaurs, which literally means "thunder lizard": apparently, the earth trembled and groaned under their weight. On a very long neck, brontosaurs had a small horse-like head. The body was like that of an elephant, and they also had very long tails. It is believed that these animals weighed about forty tons! And yet this carcass has been able to move, find its own plant food and adapt to climate changes for millions of years.

Brontosaurus, apparently, mainly lived in water, and in it the heaviest part of their body, the hind limbs and tail, lost a significant part of their weight. In deep enough water, they could swim, using giant limbs to move in the water. The water around them served as a defense against huge, carnivorous lizard rivals. They ate algae and any greenery that they could pinch along the banks of rivers and lakes. When females came ashore to lay their eggs, carnivorous lizards often attacked them, and many dinosaurs died in this way.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Voyo A15 tablet with Exynos 5250 processor 30.05.2013

An interesting feature of the tablet is the diagonal of the screen, made using IPS technology, is 11,6 inches. The resolution is also quite decent - 1920 x 1080 pixels. The second feature is not too common, but respectable SoC - Samsung Exynos 5250.

This chip contains a pair of Cortex-A15 cores and a Mali T604 GPU. For those who start to spit on the presence of "only" two cores, we recall that a similar SoC is installed in the Nexus 10 tablet and, according to testing, there were no performance problems with the tablet. In addition, the Exynos 5250 scores about 10% more points in the AnTuTu test package than the now ubiquitous quad-core MediaTek MT6589. And that's not all that the novelty can please. The battery installed in the tablet has a considerable capacity of 11500 mAh, while the device has dimensions of 293 x 188 x 9,9 and a weight of 700 g.

Other options include 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. A microSD card slot is also present, alongside Micro-USB (USB 3.0 version) and Mini HDMI connectors. The cameras have resolutions of 2 and 5 megapixels. In this version, the tablet is priced at 230 euros.
