How do animals get rabies?

Human and animal diseases are caused by viruses. A virus is a microbe, very small, indistinguishable under a normal microscope. The virus that causes rabies can live in any warm-blooded animal. A person can also get the disease from an infected dog. In rural areas, wild animals - wolves, foxes, skunks, bears, bats - can become infected with this virus. It can also infect pets. In other words, the rabies virus enters the body of an animal, infection develops, and the animal becomes rabid.

The infection enters the body, but the disease is not noticeable for some time, usually 4 to 6 weeks. Dogs first become lethargic, the temperature rises, appetite disappears. Then they start to worry. Saliva flows from the mouth. They growl and bark and are ready to bite everyone. The dog dies 3-5 days after the onset of these symptoms. If the virus is present in saliva, the disease can be transmitted through a bite. Very rarely it is transmitted in other ways.

In humans, the disease begins in the same way as in a dog. He becomes lethargic, the temperature rises, strange sensations arise. Soon the muscles begin to tighten and twitch. When a person tries to drink, the muscles of the mouth and throat contract into spasms. Therefore, this disease has another name - hydrophobia, or rabies. Muscle spasm occurs due to changes in the nervous system. Death occurs when the respiratory muscles undergo spasms.

If a person or animal falls ill with this disease, death is inevitable. Therefore, the disease must be prevented. The bite site must be carefully treated. The person or animal must be examined by a doctor within three days of being bitten. Serum is used in the treatment. The serum acts on the virus before it develops and damages the brain. The injections are given every day for 2-3 weeks.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

48-core Cavium ThunderX processors 13.12.2014

Cavium announced the availability of ThunderX processors for single and dual socket systems. ThunderX CN88xx series processors are built on the ARMv8 architecture and, according to the manufacturer, are designed for next-generation cloud infrastructure and data centers.

The processors, which the developer himself refers to the fifth generation of his multi-core processors, use cores of his own design. The processors are designed to be produced using 28-nanometer technology. They are fully compliant with the ARMv8 and ARM Server Base System Architecture (SBSA) specifications.

Recall, speaking recently about the possibility of using "alternative processors" in supercomputers, Cray mentioned a collaboration with Cavium, which is developing computing clusters on 48-core Cavium ThunderX processors, optimized for load.

The manufacturer refers to the advantages of ThunderX for the first time scalability from 24 to 48 cores, while maintaining compatibility at the level of location and pin assignment. In addition, ThunderX is the first ARM-based single-chip systems with full cache coherence for two processor sockets connected by a Cavium Coherent Processor Interconnect (CCPI) connection.

SoC configuration includes up to four 72-bit memory controllers with support for DDR3 and DDR4 memory operating at an effective frequency of up to 2400 MHz. The maximum amount of memory supported by a dual processor system is 1 TB.

New SoCs are characterized by the presence of numerous hardware accelerators that are in demand in the tasks of information protection, data storage, networking and virtualization. Full system-level virtualization is provided by Cavium virtSoC technology. Embedded I/O has throughput in the hundreds of Gbps. Ethernet support allows you to connect thousands of ThunderX-based nodes.
