How far does space extend?

Most astronomers believe that the universe that we can observe is only a part of the entire universe. They represent the universe extending far into space. But how far does it spread? Or is it endless? Or maybe there is an end somewhere? And if there is an end, what is beyond it? Astronomers think that the answers to these questions can be found in the very nature of the cosmos.

According to modern theory, the universe is twisted around itself. This means that you will never leave this space, as your circular path will bring you back to the starting point. Here's an example to help you understand this: imagine a plane flying from New York to San Francisco. If it flies in a straight line, by the time it is over San Francisco, it will be 3000 kilometers higher in the air. This happens because the earth is round. And a plane flying in a straight line flies away from the Earth into open space. To get from New York to San Francisco, the plane must fly in an arc, replicating the curved surface of the Earth.

Astronomers believe that the universe is twisted in a special way. It's not as simple as the Earth example. You can't depict it in a picture or create a model. The twisting of the cosmos, however, can be determined with the help of higher mathematics. Just as you can fly around the Earth without leaving it, you can travel in the Universe for a very long time, all the while remaining inside it.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What gesture did the ancient Romans order to kill a defeated gladiator?

The notion that ancient Roman spectators at the Colosseum chose life or death for the vanquished by pointing their thumbs up or down is erroneous. It arose after the appearance of the painting "Pollice Verso" by the artist Jean-Leon Gerome, who incorrectly translated the Latin text. In fact, a thumb bent in any direction (up or down) meant death for the vanquished, symbolizing a naked sword. And to bestow life, the audience showed a clenched fist, alluding to the sword hidden in the scabbard.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. The cage backs up 06.07.2006

American biologists from the Foundation for Medical Research forced the clawed frog cell to reverse the process of division.

The cell, which has already almost split into two, seems to "change its mind", and both halves merge again. So do the chromosomes, already lined up for distribution to two future cells. They again return to a single core. This result is achieved by targeting two proteins that control cell division.

In the future, the method of stopping cell division may be useful in the treatment of cancer.
