Did you know?

Do other planets rotate?

Let's go through them one by one and see what happens in each case. Mercury revolves around the Sun in 88 days. Scientists believe that Mercury rotates on its axis in 58 or 59 days. This means that it has a solar day (a period including day and night) of about 180 Earth days.

Venus, as it was discovered not so long ago, rotates around its axis in 243 days.

Mars rotates at almost the same speed as the Earth. And since its axis is also tilted, it has the same seasons as the Earth.

Jupiter, the largest of all the planets, rotates very fast. It takes less than 10 hours for it to make one revolution around its axis.

Saturn also rotates very fast. It takes only 10 hours and 14 minutes to turn around on its axis.

Uranus rotates very strangely, as it practically lies on its side.

Neptune and Pluto are the most distant and least explored planets compared to the others. Neptune rotates on its axis in 18,5 hours, and its journey around the Sun takes almost 165 years. Pluto takes almost 249 Earth years to go around the Sun once. Now that we live in the age of space exploration, scientists are learning more about another part of the solar system than man has ever known, and humanity is constantly gaining more knowledge about the motions of other planets.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What drink did the Germans invent, having lost the supply of ingredients for Coca-Cola?

At the beginning of World War II, the German Coca-Cola bottling factory lost its supply of ingredients from the United States. Then the Germans decided to produce another drink from food waste - apple pomace and whey - and called it "Fanta" (short for the word "fantasy"). The director of this plant, Max Keith, was not a Nazi, so the common belief that the Nazis invented Fanta is a delusion. After the war, Keith contacted the parent company, Coca-Cola regained ownership of the factory and did not abandon the new drink, which had already gained popularity.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food.
