I have been creating various devices to facilitate work on the plot of land for many years. However, I have not yet submitted my developments to the judgment of readers, this is my first attempt.

Motorcycle trailer with sidecar

It all started with the fact that trailers for motorcycles appeared on sale - in particular for Voskhod. This is what prompted me to build a trailer for my "Jupiter-4K". In principle, towing behind a motorcycle with a sidecar has never been prohibited by the rules.

The trailer that I made is suitable for towing it with any motorcycle with a sidecar, as well as an Ant cargo scooter. It turned out to be very successful; soon my neighbor made the same trailer for his Ant.

Motorcycle trailer with sidecar
Trailer for a motorcycle with a sidecar "Izh-Jupiter-4K"

First of all, I had to modify the frame of the side trailer (carriage). I welded to it an L-shaped bracket, curved from a steel pipe Ø 60 mm, attaching it to the longitudinal tube of the frame with two clamps (with fixation by welding) and two tubular struts welded to the frame and to the bracket. Struts are also water pipes with an outer diameter of 22 mm. The length of the blanks is 600 and 780 mm, however, their final size is specified locally.

Refinement of the motorcycle side trailer frame: 1 - L-shaped bracket, 2 - front clamp, 3 - rear clamp, 4, 5 - struts, 6 - adapter pipe, 7 - reinforcing scarf, 8 - racks

In addition, a steel pipe is welded to the uprights on which the body of the stroller rests, which allows the rear of the body to be slightly raised so that its shell does not touch the L-shaped bracket. It is also necessary to additionally weld a steel scarf to increase the rigidity of the frame.

Normalized coupling device: 1 - ball (steel Ø 50 mm), 2 - axis of the locking lever (steel, Ø 12 mm), 3 - stopper (steel, Ø 10 mm), 4 - stop lever (steel, thickness 15 mm), 5 - drawbar mounted on the towing vehicle, 6 - locking, 7 - hitch body

The frame of the trailer itself is also welded. The drawbar and crossbar parts are made of a Ø 22 mm pipe, the trailer axle is a Ø 60 mm pipe, and steel corners with a shelf width of 15 mm went to the loading platform. The latter is connected to the axle through V-shaped brackets, curved from a steel strip with a section of 7x70 mm.

Wheel disks and tires - from the "Ant" motor scooter, hubs - from a decommissioned seeder, after trimming they fit perfectly with the disks.

The bottom and sides of the body are sewn up with ordinary planed tongue-and-groove boards (attached to the frame with screws). The tailgate can be opened and, if necessary, removed, since it is hung on ordinary door hinges.

The trailer has all the necessary lighting devices: brake lights, direction indicators, and position lights. Reflectors are installed on the mudguards.

Its mass is about 55 kg. The maximum load capacity is up to 350 kg, however, according to the rules, it should not exceed 50% of the mass of the towing vehicle. "Mototrain" speeds up to 60 km/h. There are no brakes, as the motorcycle's braking system is quite capable of stopping - of course, if it is well adjusted and the side trailer brake is applied.

This trailer has been in operation for more than four years and so far it has served me well. There were no significant breakdowns or troubles when using a trailer with a motorcycle. "Mototrain" remained as mobile and maneuverable as the motorcycle itself. The use of the trailer did not affect the engine either. It still works reliably, stably, does not overheat, it did not have to be modified in any way.

It seems to me that my homemade product will be of interest to those owners of motorcycles with a sidecar who live in the countryside. Transport work in the courtyard - do not count. Whether it is necessary to bring hay, take potatoes to a collection point, deliver fertilizers - a cargo vehicle is required everywhere. Meanwhile, now almost every second yard has a motorcycle with a sidecar, consuming its 20-30 hp. With. only for the service of the driver and passengers. So isn't it time to put those horsepower to work?

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Infineon 1EDN7511B and 1EDN8511B Single Channel MOSFET Drivers 08.04.2019

Infineon introduced the new 1EDN7511B and 1EDN8511B EiceDRIVER gate drivers. These drivers are great for driving MOSFETs (OptiMOS families, CoolMOS, Superjunction MOSFETs, etc.) and IGBTs.

The 1EDN7511B and 1EDN8511B have LVTTL compatible differential inputs with an input voltage range of -5...+20V and are equipped with 4,2V and 8V UVLO protection.

The driver outputs are capable of delivering a maximum of 4 A of rise and fall of 8 A, and use a rail-to-rail stage to provide low impedance output channels (0,85 ohm and 0,35 ohm). The drivers have separate output channels for turning the transistor on and off.

The drivers have industry-leading reverse current resistance (up to 5A), eliminating the need for Schottky diodes on the outputs.

The drivers are available in a 6-pin SOT23-6 package.

Key Features:

output rise/fall current 4 A/8 A;
signal rise/fall time: 6 ns/5 ns;
signal propagation delay error: +- 5 ns;
undervoltage protection UVLO: 4 V and 8 V;
signal propagation delay: 19 ns;
input stability up to -10 V;
resistance to reverse output current up to 5 A.

Areas of use:

power factor correctors (DCM, CCM);
DC-DC converters;
switching power supplies;
synchronous rectification;
engine management;
wireless charger.
