The angles of collapse and convergence of the wheels of a passenger car can be adjusted extremely accurately without resorting to the services of a service station. You just need to have some locksmith skills and have the simplest tool in order to make a set of devices for this adjustment, which are distinguished by simplicity and convenient performance. Consider, for example, a variant with a VAZ-21063 car. The distance between the centers of the tire track on the ground is 1365 mm. If through these points two parallel lines are drawn forward in the direction of the car, then they could become guidelines for subsequent adjustments. However, this cannot be done: the protruding parts of the side surfaces of the car will become a hindrance. Therefore, it is necessary to draw these parallel lines at some distance from the car. This can be done using a set of devices, which can be called a goniometer.

The basis of the goniometer is a rail made of hardwood or metal. Its sides must be strictly parallel. Rail length from 450 to 500 mm.

Photo 1 shows such a wooden lath 500 mm long, 30 mm thick and 70 mm wide. Photo 2 shows a protractor made of a square pipe measuring 25x25 mm, 450 mm long. Two holes for a Ø 6 mm stud are drilled at an equal distance from the ends of the rail. The distance between their centers corresponds to the diameter of the wheel disk - 360 mm. Stop pins are inserted into the holes. The latter are made of sheet metal 4 mm thick; their length is 120 mm and height is 50 mm. The stops closely bend around the edge of the disc, touching the surface of the tire. The stop edge at the point of contact with the tire is cut off at an angle of 45 degrees.

The base of the goniometer is attached to the disk with special pins with hooks at the ends; Tire pressure should be correct. Using their elasticity, it is possible to achieve the parallelism of the base of the goniometer relative to the plane of the disk. To check the parallelism, a ruler or caliper is used.

At one end of the rail, a spool with a fishing line 0,2 ... 0,3 mm thick, about two meters long, with a plumb line at the end weighing 20 ... .30 mm. It is desirable that it can rotate around its axis - it is more convenient to take measurements.

On the rail, with the top strictly in its center, there is an arc made of sheet metal with a thickness of 2 ... 4 mm, a width of 25 mm (in photo 2) or a width of 70 mm (in photo 1), which is fixed on the rail with clamps or screws.

Wheel alignment tool
A device for adjusting the camber and toe angles of the front wheels of a car (A and B - views, respectively, from the right and left sides of the goniometer): 1 - millimeter ruler, 2 - base of the device (wooden block with a section of 30X70 mm), 3 - stops (2 pcs. ; D16T; 4X50X120 mm), 4 - arc (D16T; strip 2 ... 4 mm thick), 5 - studs with hooks (steel bar Ø 8 mm), 6 - reel with fishing line about 2 m long, 7 - weight- plumb bob weighing 20...30 g

Wheel alignment tool
All-metal version of the fixture (A - outer side of the fixture, B - side side): 1 - millimeter ruler, 2 - base of the fixture (steel square pipe 25x25 mm), 3 - stops, 4 - arc, 5 - studs with hooks, 6 - coil with fishing line, 7 - plumb weight

The guide of the movable scale (number, label) must be precisely adjusted to the height of the arc. The fishing line, stretched by a plumb line along the surface of the arc and the mark on the scale, is parallel to the plane of the rail, and the rail on the stops, in turn, is parallel to the plane of the wheel.

The set of protractors brought to your attention has the same parts and dimensions, the same adjustment method.

When adjusting the wheels, the machine must be on a level surface. It is necessary to provide access to the front lower part of the car.

Using a jack, we alternately raise the wheels and set the goniometers perpendicular to the ground (scale down). The line or thread almost touches the surface of the scale. After that, the wheels are lowered under partial load. Guided by the recommendations for adjustment (in the operating instructions for the car), we set the dimensions of the camber.

While adjusting the angle of convergence of the wheels, the goniometers are fixed in a horizontal position (or this is achieved by turning the raised wheel). The scale occupies a position in the direction of the vehicle. At a distance of 1,5 ... 2 m from the front of the car, at the level of goniometers, a rail, plank or board 1,5-1,6 meters long is installed. Lines with plumb lines are pulled out of the reels, which, bending around the rail, form orientation lines. We orient one line on the scale of the left or right goniometer. The second line is set strictly parallel to the first. Now you can proceed with the adjustment in accordance with the instructions.

Such a protractor can be used to adjust the wheels and other cars. It is only necessary to take into account the diameter of the wheel disk and the method of attaching the goniometer to it.

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Climate change affects health 07.10.2017

Climate change - namely, unpredictable temperature drops and pressure fluctuations - may increase the risk of heart failure and heart attack in older people, scientists say.

Researchers advise the elderly to avoid fogs and low winter clouds, and doctors are advised to pay attention not only to physiological indicators and patient complaints, but also to the weather.

A team of physiologists from two Canadian universities has found a link between colds and heart attacks in the elderly. After analyzing the medical records of 112 patients aged 65 and over who survived a heart attack, scientists found that older people are most often hospitalized with heart attacks from October to April. A drop in the thermometer by one degree increases the likelihood of death by an average of 0,7%, and by another 4,5% with an increase in pressure by 1 kPa. The statistics are not affected by geography (the figures turned out to be true for the entire territory of Canada) and patient history.

The nature of the relationship between cold and heart problems is not completely clear, but most likely it is vasoconstriction in response to a cold snap. The pressure of the blood on the walls of the vessels increases. In addition, when the body is cooled, hormones are actively produced that increase blood clotting, which increases the risk of blood clots.

In the body of healthy young people, all these processes do not lead to blockage of blood vessels, but the blood vessels of older people, in which lipid and protein metabolism is often difficult or disturbed, can react very sharply to weather changes, up to blockage or ruptures, including in the area heart muscle.
