Rapid gliding on the icy surface of our home-made ice sailboat-sailboat, feathered with a wing-sail, in general, predetermined the name of the winter yacht - "Blue Bird". It was built at the Central Station of Young Technicians of the Moldavian SSR and was intended to teach novice yachtsmen the art of sailing in the winter.

During the operation of the "Blue Bird" type buoys, it turned out that, conceived as simulators, they can also be used as racing ones, since they have good stability and maneuverability. Well, a decent carrying capacity allows them to be used for purely transport chains, for example, for the delivery of mail or small cargo. By the way, as it turned out, the boats are quite suitable not only for teenagers, but also for adults.

"Blue Bird" is built from the cheapest and most commonly available materials, which makes it possible to repeat it in almost any conditions.

The appearance of the buer is in Figure 1. Its sailing equipment is from the Optimist dinghy, it is possible that a specially tailored Bermuda sail could also be used.

From a standard (1520x1520 mm) plywood sheet, cut out a bulkhead, two knees, a nose and a bottom. The sheet cutting scheme is shown in Figure 8. The main rigidity of the body is given by two side rails with a cross section of 20x100 mm and a length of 2500 mm. The bow is a spatial structure consisting of a bottom, a bulkhead, two knees, a pine beam 70x100x580 mm and plywood sheathing 3 mm thick. The body elements are fastened with casein glue and screws.

The metal details of the buer are simple. Bolted connections allow you to do without welding, although the latter is preferable. The suspension assembly of the front steering skate includes a clip welded from two steel profiles "corner", a vertical stand (steel bar Ø 15 mm), a two-arm lever (steel strip 5 mm thick), a steering bearing (pipe with an internal Ø 16 mm) and two fastening rings. Suspension of the front bearing with a steel spring or a package of rubber washers. The skate itself consists of three parts: a steel blade and two duralumin linings.

The rear skates are no different from the front ones, but their clips are rigidly connected to the transverse beam of the hull.

The surface of a frozen reservoir can serve as a testing ground for the Blue Bird. It should be remembered that even a small amount of snow on the ice creates significant resistance to the movement of the ice glider, so full-fledged training is best done either at the beginning of winter, immediately after the ice has formed, or in March, after the snow cover has melted.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

Cocoa - protection against hypertension 09.10.2007

The Kuna Indians live on islands off the Caribbean coast of Panama. Unlike residents of developed countries, the representatives of the tribe rarely have hypertension, their blood pressure does not increase with age, and the frequency of diseases associated with high blood pressure - heart attack, diabetes, stroke - is lowered. But those Indians who have moved to the mainland are losing the islanders' protection against hypertension.

What's the matter? As ethnographers have discovered, the Kuna Indians drink several cups of cocoa daily, and they make their own from the seeds of the cocoa tree. At the same time, flavonoids remain in the ground seeds - compounds that make the drink bitter. Flavonoids are usually removed from regular cocoa and chocolate.

Meanwhile, they protect the heart and blood vessels. Having moved to the mainland, in more civilized conditions, the Indians stop preparing their cocoa and acquire diseases characteristic of civilization. Some global chocolate manufacturers are already starting to produce chocolate bars and cocoa powder with flavonoids.
