Since when did men start cutting their hair?

People have been decorating and styling their hair in various ways since time immemorial. It is interesting to see how the importance of hairstyles in men and women has decreased over time. In primitive tribes around the world, there are many hairstyles, each of which means something. The Chinese originally wore their hair in a bun on their heads. But when the Manchus conquered the country, they forced the Chinese to wear pigtails as a sign of their slave state. Gradually, this hairstyle became widespread among the Chinese, and they kept it.

As civilization developed, hairstyles became more and more diverse. There was a time when it was impossible to meet two people who would go with the same hairstyle. In some countries, the hair hung loose, while in others, the hair was combed up. Only relatively recently did the custom appear to wear long hair for women, and short hair for men.

During the Middle Ages, men wore their hair quite long and looked after it with the same zeal as women. They curled them and woven ribbons. During the Renaissance, they even bleached their hair and wore wigs to make them look even longer. Eventually, Henry VIII decided to do something about these extremes and ordered all men to wear short hair. But he allowed to twist mustaches and wear long beards.

When James I ascended the throne, however, the men returned to the custom of walking with long hair. In Louis XIV France, all French gentlemen competed with each other to see who had the longest, most curled wig!

Fashion changed in one direction or the other until the XNUMXth century, when the custom was established once and for all - to walk with short hair. But even today, in court hearings, you can see judges and lawyers wearing wigs - a reminder of the days when long hair was in fashion!

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
