When did they start talking about vandalism?

In 455 AD, the king of the Vandals (a group of tribes of East Germans) Gaiseric, after conquering the Balearic Islands, Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily, attacked Italy from the sea and approached Rome. Emperor Petronius Maximus, not daring to resist the barbarians, was about to flee, but was killed by his own guards. Then Pope Leo I came out to meet the vandals and received a promise from Geiseric not to burn the city. On June 2, Geiseric entered Rome without hindrance and gave the city to his soldiers for 14 days to be plundered.

The devastating consequences of this vandal invasion of Rome were so great that since that time the word "vandalism" has been used to refer to the extremely cruel, senseless destruction of cultural property.

Who are the parasites?

Sometimes you can hear from people that they don't want to live like parasites. They want to do everything themselves. Parasites live inside or outside other organisms - the so-called "hosts". All living beings live independently. But parasites live at the expense of other organisms. Parasites take everything from the "owner", but do not give him anything in return! Both plants and animals can be parasites. They can live either on plants or on animals. Sometimes parasites live with different kinds of "hosts", but usually they can coexist with one kind of "host".

Sometimes parasites suck out all the juices from the "master", secrete toxic substances and thereby kill him. Almost all forms of parasites are very prolific and hardy. If it were not so, they could be completely exterminated! Let's look at some parasites. The smallest of them are bacteria. Bacteria are known to cause disease in animals and plants, as well as in humans.

Next in development are fungal parasites. Ringworm in humans is caused by one of these plant parasites. Other types can cause rust, mold and plant wilt. There are a large number of parasites in the animal kingdom. Here also the smallest parasite is one of the most significant. There is such a microscopic single-celled animal - the protozoa. These parasites cause African sleeping sickness, malaria and other diseases in humans.

Some types of worms are the next group of parasitic animals. Roundworm - trichina - the cause of the disease of pigs and humans with trichinosis. Parasites are also worms and flatworms. The highest form of parasites that settle on the skin are fleas, ticks and lice.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

iSuppli predicts a downturn in the consumer electronics market 21.06.2006

Although the global consumer electronics market currently remains positively developed, analysts at iSuppli predict a slowdown in 2006, which will be expressed in its reduction to a few percent.

As an explanation for such a conclusion, two "lying on the surface" facts may come to mind - the ongoing inconsistency with the formats of high-capacity optical media and the delay in the release of new generation game consoles, but in fact, the cause of the crisis, according to the company's specialists, will be other reasons.

The real reason for the slowdown in market growth, according to iSuppli, will be related to manufacturing, whose revenues are declining so unexpectedly fast that by 2010 they may turn into losses.

Further calculations are obvious: less income from production - less production - less supply - slowdown in market growth. Another reason may be the increase in interest rates on loans by banks, which, according to experts, is a reaction to the unstable situation in the Middle East region.
