What do octopuses eat?

If you ever run into an octopus underwater, it's best to stay away from it! The octopus, of course, is not as dangerous as its appearance or the way we imagine it can be judged. But nevertheless meeting with him can be very unpleasant. The fact is that the octopus can bite, and its bite is poisonous.

The octopus has very strong jaws, similar to the beak of a parrot. Not to mention the fact that the bite itself is very painful, but after all, an octopus can also inject poison when bitten. Usually the octopus uses this poison to get food. For example, he can paralyze a crab and eat it without any interference. The usual food of the octopus is crabs, fish and other marine animals, which it captures with suckers and tears into pieces with its jaws. But a hungry octopus ceases to be picky about food. It eats almost anything it can catch and rip apart.

An unusual look to the octopus is given by its eight tentacles. They are very long and flexible, and on their lower part there are rows of suction cups that help the octopus grab and hold any prey very tightly. The octopus does not use these long tentacles for locomotion. At the back of his body is a funnel-shaped siphon, with which he is able to release a jet of water with great force. This allows him to move very quickly.

Did you know that the ancient Greeks and Romans also caught octopuses to eat? The Romans considered it a great delicacy. And even today, Greeks, Italians and Chinese eat salted or dried octopus with great pleasure.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What is a viper?

The viper is one of the varieties of snakes. It belongs to a family of snakes called vipers (viper snakes), which includes some of the most venomous snakes on earth. The same group of snakes includes the rattlesnake, the moccasin water snake, the copperhead, the South American bushmaster, the common European viper, and the African horned viper.

The snake that killed Cleopatra was most likely a horned African viper. The poison of these snakes destroys the blood vessels, and the victim dies from hemorrhage. All vipers have a thick body and a flat triangular head. Their poisonous teeth located in the upper jaw are actually very long. Inside these teeth there is a channel connected to the poison glands located in the cavities behind the eyes. During a snake bite, the chewing muscles contract and the venom is squirted through the teeth into the open wound.

A medium-sized snake can inject about half a teaspoon of poison into the victim's body at a time! It is useless to pull out teeth from such snakes, because new ones always grow in their place! Viper snakes are divided into two families: true vipers, which are found only in Europe and in some parts of Africa, and spotted pit snakes, which are similar in many structural features to viper snakes, living in the Western Hemisphere and somewhere in Asia.

The most poisonous viper is found in India, its length reaches 1,5 m, but, generally speaking, vipers attack a person only when they are disturbed or prevented from hunting. Still, it's best to stay away from them!

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Friday Lock smart door lock 07.05.2017

Friday Labs announced the availability of the Friday Lock smart door lock, which was announced and funded through Indiegogo back in 2015.

The fact that the developers missed the deadlines is, of course, not very good, but at least they did not refuse to fulfill their obligations. Those who supported the developers have already received their locks. Others can pre-order for $249 and ship in 3-4 weeks.

The device supports smartphones running iOS and Android operating systems. It is equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules, and also supports the Apple HomeKit platform. The corresponding application will automatically close the door behind you and open it when you are close. You can also send messages to friends with a guest pass that will allow them to open the door once.

The Friday Lock will last about three months before you need to recharge the built-in battery.
