Often, during the mass operation of batteries, for example, in industry or service centers, special devices are used to charge and test them - analyzers, which can be very conditionally divided into two groups: universal, allowing you to work with batteries and rechargeable batteries, and non-universal, serving only completely certain batteries. Unlike the former, the cost of non-universal analyzers is much less, and if only specific batteries are in operation, then the use of a specialized device is fully justified.

The author happened to work with a similar device from Motorola TDN9431B for charging nickel-cadmium batteries with a capacity of 1,2 Ah, consisting of six batteries, at one of the portable radio repair shops. Numerous tests have shown that the battery is often inoperable - self-discharge increases, capacity decreases - due to the failure of one or two batteries. By replacing faulty batteries, you can extend the "life" of the battery.

Unfortunately, the TDN9431B analyzer does not allow you to test individual batteries. I propose a prefix to the analyzer, which expands its capabilities. With its help, it was possible to assemble fully functional batteries from faulty batteries, which were then operated for several years.

The attachment diagram is shown in the figure.

Battery Test Attachment

Transistor VT1 and resistors R8, R9 perform the function of a controlled voltage source. Since the analyzer allows testing only batteries containing four or more nickel-cadmium batteries, a voltage drop is created on resistors R8, R9, simulating the "missing" (in our case - four) batteries.

Op-amp DA1 performs the function of a voltage amplifier of the tested battery G1 with a gain of about four. A voltage source control unit is assembled on the DA2 op amp.

The controlled voltage source is fed from an unstabilized source on the mains transformer T1, rectifier VD2-VD5 and filter capacitor C2. The supply voltage of the op-amp is stabilized by the simplest stabilizer VD1R10.

The device is connected to one of the analyzer compartments, and the tested battery is connected to connectors X1 and X2 of the attachment. The battery parameters are displayed on the analyzer display, and it should be remembered that the true voltage is five times less than the readings.

The mains transformer must be designed for a power of at least 24 watts. On the regulating transistor VT1, a power of about 7,5 W is released, so it should be installed on a heat sink with an area of 110 cm2. Resistors R8, R9 - C5-16V or C5-16MV.

The attachment can be used with almost any non-universal analyzer. You may have to recalculate the resistance of resistors R8, R9 for a different number of batteries in the battery. As an example, we present the calculation of device parameters for our case.

We calculate the drop across resistors R8, R9 based on the minimum and maximum voltage on the battery:

where N is the number of batteries to be replaced. We select the maximum charging current of 0,6 A and calculate the resistance of resistors R8 and R9:

Power dissipated by resistors R8 and R9:

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Vivo 2 Wireless Headset for Athletes 10.11.2022

BBK subsidiary Vivo has launched a new wireless neckband headset in China. The Vivo 2 Wireless Sports Headset uses a neck strap, which is excellent, but what should stand out more is the 12 hours of music playback sustained by the battery under the hood. The product is extremely affordable as it starts at just 119 yuan ($16).

Since it's a relatively cheap product, don't expect much from it in terms of configuration, but that's not the case. Headphones with a neck brace are very light, weighing only 18 grams. It adopts the exclusive design of horn ears, which can fit snugly in the ear without any discomfort. Since these are sports headphones, it is important that they fit snugly around your ears.

The built-in 11,2mm moving coil is equipped with a polymer diaphragm. It also uses a Japanese Daikoku copper-clad aluminum voice coil to improve high-frequency sound output. The headset is also configured by the Vivo Golden Ear acoustic team to balance the three frequencies.

The Wireless Sports Headset 2 uses the Bluetooth 5.0 chip, and the audio latency during gaming can be reduced to at least 80ms. The high-sensitivity microphone designed in the headset's built-in control position supports noise reduction during calls, making daily calls and voices in games clearer.

As already noted, the headphones support up to 12 hours of music playback when fully charged. Even if the battery is dead, there is no reason to worry because the headphones have a flash charging function. A 10-minute charge can provide up to 3 hours of music playback, which is great.
